These moves will send Ottawa back into a rebuild for many years to come when they are probably a few years away from contention

Tavares is better than both in the circle, so it would make more sense to put him on one Stutzle's wing (he takes the key faceoffs) since he's slowing down in terms of skating and their captain who is on a cheaper deal for him, was thrown out for Tavares. To do that then play him on line 3 would cost that GM his job or at least make Ott his last GM job

He probably is a Karlsson fan (they can get Klingberg for cheaper), how much cap do you think SJ would be able to retain on Karlsson if they took Burns unretained as well?

Then next season you have $21MM to sigh Stützle, Pinto, and Zub, plus 7 more players.

Should have plenty of time to sign Norris and matching an offer sheet is probably better than taking that compensation for him (probably can get more in a trade).

I don't see Yzerman for a few more seasons. If you are going to offer sheet some you do it to add that final piece.

I would be willing to bet a significant amount of Schrute Bucks that Yzerman will never sign an offer sheet. It's just not how he operates.

Offer sheets only go through when they're for way more than the other club can afford, otherwise all they accomplish is bad blood between GMs, soured relationships with a player and the club, tied up assets while the process plays out and then if they actually go through - the prize is giving up a boat load of picks for an over paid player.

I will never understand the fascination with offer sheets.
