Best Sens Team That Only Won 5 Playoff Games

Created by: DannySavior
Team: 2022-23 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: May 30, 2022
Published: May 30, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
2005-06 Ottawa Senators

Record: 52-21-9 (113 Pts.)
Season Result: Lost in ECSF to BUF, 4-1

- Every single game was decided by 1 goal against Buffalo, including a 7-6 OT loss in Game 1. Emery stopped only 16 of 23 shots in that game.
- Dominik Hasek suffered a season ending injury during the 2006 Olympics, but still finished 7th in Vezina voting despite his injury
- Even if Emery was mostly good in the playoffs, Hasek's injury is the biggest "what if" in Senators history

Love looking back at stuff like this...a few observations:
-Pretty wild that Buffalo was only 3 pts back of them in the regular season.
-Ottawa had a +103(!!!) goal differential...next in line was Detroit (+96), and then there's a major drop off to Dallas (+47).
-Of the 16 playoff teams in '06, only 8 are in the playoffs this year.
-That was the year that every matchup in the West QF's was an upset, whereas there were none in the East QF's. The only non-upset through the entire West side of the playoffs was Anaheim (6) knocking out Colorado (7th).
