You are probably right, but one can dream. Maybe Colorado offers him a future front office job if he does them this favor.

I think it’s interesting that Sabres fans generally have Johnson’s value as a 3rd or 4th meanwhile other armchair GMs are convinced the Avs will need to add a 1st round pick or another premium asset to make him moveable.

Seems like a generally realistic ACGM.

He is just a great fit for the Sabres. He would be perfect to pair with Power, they have the cap space (and they need to get above the floor), he will bring leadership to a very very very young D-Corps. It just makes so much sense, minus his NMC.

It's better to be bought out ? He can waive and sign extension with Sabres. If he is bought out, he`ll sign 1 year deal somewhere, play on 3rd pair and most likely that's it for career after this season.

I don't know if the Sabres would extend him. If he is bought out he can choose what team he goes to. He could sign with a contender like Edmonton and take a shot at another cup run.

Avs still have 2mil cap hit on a buyout. Not bad. Avs are still an elite contender with Johnson on the books so maybe they just keep him and eventually back to LTIR..

I guess I don't see how he is a good fit. Dude is just washed, he can't skate and he is expensive. Plenty of of washed veteran ufas you can sign without spending.
If Colorado sends us a 1st then I would do it

Have you watched the player this season? He’s still solid. The Athletic has his market value for this season as $3.6M. For context, the only Sabres defenseman with a higher market value for their production this season is Dahlin at $5.2M.

Johnson is overpaid but you’re a fool if you genuinely have watched the player and still think his value is a negative first round pick.

Fair value for Johnson and a good player for the Sabres to target - Colorado says yes to free up the cap, Sabres say yes for a minimal cost player who helps them get to the cap floor -while- still being useful.

I don't know if that's how it would play out, but I love the idea of getting a better pick from Toronto for Mrazek, buying him out, and still having enough cap to also steal away Jack Campbell. Don't think that went unnoticed!!!

I do watch. And he is serviceable. But for the cap hit I'm not taking that especially not paying for that.
Sure is his market value a negative 1st. No. But I'm not giving the future stanley cup Champs any cap relief. So that's where I would say it would cost a 1st.
