Wouldn't trade Mercer for Miller straight up.

Stop trying to send Miller to NJ, it isn't a fit.

Ask yourself this;

Why would New Jersey, a rebuilding team, make this trade?

It sounds like your GM wants to exit the rebuke. New Jersey is probably not the best fit but it doesn’t seem like you guys are gonna be rebuilding for much longer

COL declines.
Dickinson doesnt fill a need and it overpaid himself.
Doesnt make sense to move EJ to save cap space to then take on an overpaid contract in return

The rebuild has to end at some point particularly for a team that hasn't made the playoffs since 2018, a general manager that is already 2 years into his tenure, and a team that will add another top 2 player this year.

Miller is the type of player NJ needs. Can play first line center, but can also play wing. On a line with Hughes, he can take important draws and switch if need during play. He's a leader who will guide the young players.

Yeah $3M+ in cap space for a team in the middle of it's cup contending window makes no sense.

no need to get sensitive and defensive, its just a bad proposal.
EJs proven hes still valuable to COL and if he was to be moved, would be for a pick or prospect instead. This clears his full cap hit and doesnt involve taking back a useless/overpaid contract in return (while netting a better return).

For arguement sake, if COL wants to move EJ and save 3mil cap space, they could easily retain half of his deal, trade him for a return BETTER than Dickinson and still save 3mil cap space.

Isn't he a 3rd pair dman for you? If Dickinson is that bad, you could save an additional $1M by moving him to the minors.

Yes third pair but why would that matter when everyone has a role to fill?

EJ compared the COL other Dmen was:
- 4th in points, 3rd in goals.
- tied 1st for most games played (stayed healthy and filled in when top 4 guys were hurt).
- 3rd in +/-
- 1st in hits
- 1st in blocked shots.

Colorado will have some tough choices this off-season. Lots of free agents.

For what it’s worth, I hope they make it to the finals.

Nichuskin and Kuemper get resigned.
Kadri and Burakovsky are gone.
Manson can stay only if EJ is moved.
It is what it is at this point.

Of course it does, but you don't get out of a rebuild by trading a 20 year old that just had a great rookie year and a 1st for a 29 year old coming off a career year that's going to command a ton of money. If Miller is such a great fit on a rebuilding team, why is Vancouver trading him? Right, because he doesn't fit their window. Same can be said for New Jersey.

I don't doubt that he's the type of player we need, but this deal just doesn't make sense. If NJ packages one of the best rookies in the game + a 1st, it would be for a star under the age of 25.

Sure. I don't think making this trade for a 29 year old is the right move to "exit the rebuild"
