How Id do it

Created by: Stadel
Team: 2022-23 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: May 31, 2022
Published: May 31, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ive made plenty of posts and teams stating ownership wont spend (which i believe to be true) but I really believe in the potential the team has and think hockey ops should try and convince them to spend just a wee bit more than they plan.

With the right analytics backed move (they have two of the smartest guys working for them) they can have a great year.

Going from Miller, Jokiharju and Fitzgerald to Zub, Carlo (I admit totally guessing value here but Ive seen there names pop up so what the heck), Kulak on the right side alone without giving up one of the better young players on the squad is massive. Should compliment the vastly improved goaltending.

And just for fun, add an under-appreciated first line talent. Sabres become a playoff threat and everybody eats bread.

I actually considered Krebs but, wouldn't that signal a rebuild for B's? You'd be betting everything on potential.

What would I have to add for either?

The carlo bit is surprising btw, there was a rash of ACGM teams where bruins fans were trying to get rid of him.

don’t think zub is getting moved (if anything we need another guy like zub ourselves), and if he was it would be for a helluva lot more than that.

i also doubt mangiapane gets moved, but it would have to be jokiharju + your 1st (9oa) to even get the conversation started, might even need more

No Chance Calgary does that, maybe if it was #9 instead

Feels a bit greedy for a 2nd line guy.

23 5v5 goals ranks him top 20 in the league. Not to mention his excellent 2-way game. The odds of #9 being as good as him are pretty slim

not necessarily, Krebs could potentially play 2C for us, Having Hall and Pasta would surely speed up his development. Plus Carlo had a bit of a down year so i doubt boston sells low on him unless they are getting a young nhl C or C prospect that has 1-2C potential like krebs and cozens

I fully agree, but I priced the deal at the cost of an offer sheet, cause assuming they sign tk and jg it’s a real possibility. I’ll probably change the picks a bit but I bet If he’s dealt it’s for a lot less than 9th overall

Why do other bruins fans want rid of him for so much less? Mostly curious

He will 100% file for arbitration like ever RFA with arb rights does. Then there is zero offer sheet threat

just being stupid because B's didn't go all the way i guess? For me if Bergeron retires everyone but Mcavoy and Swayman are untouchable, every player has a price even Pasta but you gotta expect to give up a lot because they won't come cheap.
Guys like Carlo/Pastrnak/Grzelcyk/ Debrusk could all bring in picks and prospects to really solidify our future and set us up for more cup runs later on. Even Marchand if he wanted to go compete for a cup and boston was in a rebuild I'd be okay with getting the haul we could get for him but again all the decisions heavily rely on what Bergy does

Yeah i figured it was reactionary but I was curious nonetheless, thanks for the input! What about Clifton?

That's not a great answer, Zub is one of the top two way D in the league and he is a perfect compliment to Sanderson or Chabot. Maybe if you threw in the Vegas pick then there would be a bit more of a discussion.

He also signs that contract with Ottawa and probably gets more anyway.

He is also 99% not available. You could get him for the right price but it would have to be a lot.

That's all good, if I'm giving up #9 then that's all I'm giving. I would not add joki.
And in all honesty, if there was more push back I would just wait and offer sheet him and bank on next year being better than #9

Dorion’s not that dumb lol, no GM is gonna give up a guy they want to keep at a position of need for a pathetic offer. And the Flames can make it work, and even if they did decide to trade Mang it would be for a LOT more than that
