I think Toronto is interested in Varlamov but I don't think they're giving up that much to get him and Mayfield, who's not enough of an upgrade from Holl to warrant a first round pick.

Vancouver fans will scream that's not enough. If it costs that much to get one year of JT Miller they can keep him, miss the playoffs again and let him walk as a UFA.

Isles are not downgrading and taking on another year Mzarek to move up 30 spots. Isles will keep Mayfield and Varly and if out of the playoffs trade them each at the deadline for a better return and not taking on the Leafs dumps.

I would love to see the NYI trade cuz I'm a pens fan and I sympathise for TOR but there is no way they do that

tor is giving up cup dumps for serviceable/good players

it's closer if you take out the second the isles are giving up but yeah just don't see the islanders taking on those players and giving up mayfield + varlamov for that little. if you estimate it's about 2 2nds to dump mrazek, there's still almost no value for actually giving up the players in the deal.

Absolutely not.

Mrazek has negative value and the *cheapest* deals going around these boards have Toronto needing to attach at least a 3rd rounder to dump his cap hit.

Holl is not as good as Mayfield and has a slightly higher cap hit, so Toronto needs to add a little something to even that out.

I'd argue that Mrazek/Holl/1st is fair value for Mayfield and the 2nd which means the Islanders are basically sending Varlamov to Toronto for free. No thanks.
