I could see the first trade going either way - it's a classic "challenge/change of scenery" type of trade. The value is fair but I could picture either team deciding to stick with what they got instead of changing it up.
As far as that Islanders trade, it's an easy pass for NY: first off, a first line center is always going to be more valuable than a top line winger, so Barzal > Bertuzzi there; Barzal is 2 years younger than Bertuzzi so he gets a checkmark there; they are both basically a wash in production - Bertuzzi scored at a slightly higher rate this season (62 in 69 GP vs. 59 in 73 GP) but Barzal's track record is better (70.5 pts/82 GP in his career against 55.9/82 for Bertuzzi). Bertuzzi is more valuable contract wise ($4.375M vs. $7M) with the major caveat that he's a UFA at the end of next season, while Barzal is still an RFA. Mat Barzal is clearly the better player, so adding in a B-tier prospect and a presumably late 2nd is going to be enough to get that deal finished. You've got to add on this year's 1st to even keep the Islanders on the phone - it's still going to take a better prospect to even get this into the realm of possibility.
