Only ONE of the 1sts is “late”
The VGK pick is mid-1st, 16th overall

Words matter

Apologies. that detail doesn’t change the rest of it still

Late enough that the pick makes no NHL impact for at least 2-3 years at a minimum, and has does not impact the current teams window, aside from them losing a top defender.

Context matters, especially in a draft where 14-45 OA is considered a crap shoot.

Statistics show that really anything after 3 overall begins a STEEP decline to the early teens, then a massive drop off. Basically anything from mid 1st until 4-5th round is almost the same. But yeah words right?

Mid-1st and Late 1st mean 2 different things
That’s a fact
He misspoke, and there’s no denying it

*and no, I’m not saying u guys should do the proposed trade
Just that he spoke incorrectly
Pick 16 is NOT a “late 1st”

Pick 16 is not a “late 1st”
The end
Contextualize it all you want, but it’s incorrect to put it like that

Pesce should, and would be on the top pairing if it was anyone else other than Rod coaching the team. The only reason Rod plays him on the second pairing is because he doesn’t want all his eggs in one basket. Pesce is a legitimate top pairing defenseman, so 2 late firsts and a roster player who holds no value to the Canes would be a terrible move for the Canes. So the pile of junk you offered would be immediately shot down.

Again bro I can't take anything you say seriously when you talk about 3 Firsts as a pile of junk.
As discussed through out the post I can u derstand the value of a certain player being worth more to a team than anything that can get traded.
But seriously you can't sound more annoying by keep saying this is a pile of junk.

Please tell me how many defenseman have netted a trade of 2 Firsts. And then tell me how they compare to Pesce.

It's quantity over quality. The only reason contending teams trade away any of their top tier of players is because of cap issues. Pesce, at his current contract, has incredible value. Carolina would be digging a massive hole, and wouldn't be getting any dirt to throw in the hole. You're likely looking at 2-3 years at minimum for either of those picks to even sniff the NHL, at which point Carolina's window could potentially be a heck of a lot shorter than it currently is.

If I'm Carolina, I'm adding to my team, not subtracting.

I think throughout all the comments that was certainly clear.

I also think that this proposal isn't as ridiculous as people are making it out to be.
I certainly understand why carolina wouldn't do it, but, it isn't outside the realm of possibility

Alright, let’s look at the package a different way. Mittelstadt, who plays C, is a useless acquisition. Not only has he underperformed for his draft location, Canes have no need for C. They already have Aho, KK, Staal, and likely Drury as their C core for next year, before even mentioning how deep their c pipeline runs. 2 first round picks, at 16OA and 28OA, who at the very earliest, reach the NHL 2-3 years after they are drafted. That is 2-3 years of not really being able to compete for the cup.

Do you really think that a player who holds no value to the Canes and a mid and late firsts are really enough for effectively forcing the Canes to retool? If Pesce were to be traded, 1) he would very likely get more than Eichel got, based on a bidding war, lack of injuries, steal of a deal, and just not being a cancer, and 2) would signify a retool or even rebuild for the Canes. So from a Canes perspective, it is a pile of junk as none of it would help them contend now.

And as for dmen who have been traded for 2+ first round picks: Lindholm (2 2nd rounders and a prospect equal to about a first) is probably closest in terms of overall game. Then you have Seth Jones and EK65, and we can leave it at Chicago and San Jose probably screwed up. Lindholm also only got that with half retention, and he doesn’t play the money position of RD.
