aint no way that oilers trade is fair lol. big strong two way dman with elite potential for another top 9 forward... we don't need anymore middle/bottom 6 players especially not for that price

Uh that’s not what Edmonton is receiving in this trade... I see Broberg slated on his offside in a majority of Oilers ACGMs which is why I offered our natural RD prospect who’s no longer a team fit here.

Who is the top nine/bottom six forward you’re talking about?

Rangers decline the Edmonton trade. Nils will probably be traded but it will be for a forward.

Can really say about the other trade since there is no return listed.

mb I mistaked lundqvist and kravtsov for one another. Still, oilers have more than enough rd prospects while not having many great ld prospects besides broberg and neimo.

Oilers say 'thanks but no thanks'.

Broberg may not be progressing as fast as we'd hoped, but he's on the cusp.
He was drafted due to his raw athleticism and instinct, now that he's kinda worked on his downsides in the AHL (hockey sense, decision making, technical skills) he's projecting to be a big piece for us!

I just figured he’d be traded for some position of need whether thats left defence or right wing. Don’t see why it mattered to be either or

The other trade is for nothing. Rangers pay Kravtsov to move Nemeth somewhere.

Left defense is not really an area of need with Zac Jones and Matthew Robertson in the pipeline. I can see them bringing in a veteran rather than trading for another youngster.

They won't have to pay to move Nemeth. They will trade him for a 6th round pick or something along those lines or just buy him out.

They absolutely won’t buyout two years and he has negative trade value. See Butcher and Gostisbehere

I don't believe he's projected to play in the bigs next season at all, the right side is clogged: Bouch, Ceci, Barrie while the left side is pending Keith (& Kulak) situation: Nurse, Keith, (Kulak).

I personally think Kulak played himself into consideration, certainly made the Barrie pairing a viable one instead of a defensive nightmare.

I have heard too that Broberg was more comfortable on the right side for now.
So unless there are major changes (Kulak signing elsewhere, Barrie being offloaded, Keith retiring), I think he's best suited to play 25min a night in Bakersfield for further polishing before a full time stint up with the big boys.

They will consider a buyout. His cap hits would only be $1M, $0 followed by $1M and $1M.

Nemeth cap hit is/was not as much as Butcher and Gostisbehere so most likely something along the lines of Nemeth + 6th for a 7th.

Broberg >> Lundqvist.

PH: 6'3, 200, 20 years old
NL: 5'11, 187, 21 years old

PH: 31, 4-19-23 +14 in AHL draft+3
NL: 34, 3-12-15 -9 in AHL draft+4

I'll take the younger, bigger, faster guy who has better offense and defense, thanks.

I didn’t think AHL stats would be considered more reliable than NHL stats but alright, it’s definitely pretty evident Broberg wins that tiebreaker. Meanwhile they’re also both on the same ELC schedule so if anything the 21 year old is more valuable than the 20 year old in this instance.

With that being said, thank you for your rationale.

I still wouldn’t bet on a buyout after how much those have depleted the salary cap for us in recent memory. I still would prefer to just sacrifice an asset. Meanwhile Nemeth has two years worth of term so he’s actually more expensive than Butcher. A Nemeth trade would actually look pretty similar to our Marc Staal trade with Detroit as his AAV was just north of $5M.

Buyout cap hits are gone after this year so the $1M buyout cap hits in 2024 & 2025 wont be a factor and the cap hopefully will have a large increase as long as escrow is paid off by then. Correct, Staal's AAV was $5.7M which is why they paid a 2nd to get rid of him but that was also during COVID and an uncertain CAP/revenue future. Hell Ghostbear cost a 2nd to dump $4.5M so Nemeth and his $2.5M will cost nowhere near that.

Moreover Ghostbear had two years of term like Nemeth does, so it would be closer to the Butcher deal, which was a 5th. I’m expecting the price to be in the 3rd-4th range, not acquiring a 6th. And I’m also still more willing to do that than a buyout so there’s no “hope” factor.
