You can offer sheet Sandin for same amout and give only one 2nd round pick. How NYI gonna extend Barzal and Mayfield next year ?

Varlamov only accepts a trade to Buffalo if he gets immediately dealt to a team that he'd accept a trade to.....Buffalo would probably retain half his salary to help get to the floor, so for the Islanders, it would be a cap dump. Mayfield would probably need to be apart of the trade, since Buffalo is looking for a RHD, and the Buffalo could probably send Portillo along with other assets considering Buffalo may not be able to sign him.....assuming Buffalo can add a goalie. Washington strikes me as a partner for such a deal. Varly's NTC complicates things. He reportedly refused to go to Edmonton, and I doubt he'd consider Buffalo.

I think it would be dumb unless you're getting a first back, but even then I wouldn't trade him.

Leaf are pretty cap tight if Isles were to offer sheet him at that price toronto will either have to sell low on another player or they will have to just take the L and lose him

Wont work

As if Sandin gets offer sheeted Leafs match and trade Muzzin or acquire an LTIR contract to make the cap space work

Why would Mayfield need to head to Buffalo is a cap retention situation?

Varlamov would be the cap retention for Buffalo......Mayfield is just someone that the Sabres would probably be interested in for the second pair. He's respectable as a second pair, strong third pair, and most importantly, strong penalty killer, I think Buffalo would be interested.

The issue with Varlamov is how many teams will be interested, and of those teams, how many will we waive for? Maybe he changes his mind on Edmonton if they look for a goalie and win the cup? Maybe Colorado reunion if they get eliminated and don't keep Keumper? Maybe Toronto if they don't get Campbell back...maybe Detroit? But again will he waive? There's not a ton of options there if they try to move him.

Ok. But what is Buffalo giving up for Mayfield in this scenario? I’ve seen a lot of armchair GM’s who undervalue Mayfield.

So why would they trade him ? He is young, and they can fit him under the cap.

What evidence do you have that Toronto can trade Muzzin, he has not that good of a contract. Especially when the organization really loves him

LA Kings are looking for a veteran LD. Muzzin was once upon a time a king. So you make a simple trade and done. Muzzin's contract also is fine compared to what many top physical LD like him make. As we saw when healthy he is a solid top 4 D and his playoff performance highlighted that.

Heck Lou is looking for a LD and often prefers older more experienced guys. Could see Muzzin traded to the NYI

Sandin is not getting traded. Friedman was just being speculative like "people told me watch the situation"

I dont see it going anywhere. Sandin will probs just sign a bridge deal and play on his offside like Brodie is rn

Muzzin has a long concussion history, He is a declining Defenseman. The Kings are in a rebuild. The cap hit is pretty expense to take on (need assets attach to it,) Enough said.

Kings are done the rebuild this year showed it.

They will now be looking for vets to fill in the lineup and Muzzin is a prime candidate. He can easily slot in and play with Roy or his old partner Doughty and contribute to their up and coming blue line

And no Leafs wont have to pay to move Muzzin. He is still a good top 4 D who can play 20+ mins a night. As Duncan Keith highlighted you can get value. Now Muzzin is not Duncan Keith age so Dubas can easily get a better return. All depends on where Muzzin wants to go. But since Kings were a former team of his I doubt he rejects a trade to go back.

Just because the Kings were a bubble team ( that got in to the playoffs) in a very weak division. doesn't mean they are out of their rebuild

Kings are done the rebuild lul

They got a team who can now challenge for a playoff spot

As they got a good goaltending tandem, a good up and coming Dcore and a nice forward core

And as the playoffs showed they can be a threat. Just need to add a few more vets and they are set.
