I mean, he’s not really a rental because Florida isn’t selling lol, so it would have to be a big offer. And while he is 28, defensemen (especially defensive defensemen) tend to be able to stick around okay if they can avoid injuries, and Weegar’s a late bloomer (barely 300 NHL games). He’s one of the best defensive defensemen in the entire league, and shoots right. I’d be fairly confident he has another 6 high level seasons in him, maybe more if he can avoid injury. And presumably we’d want to talk with his camp and make sure he’s open to an extension first (which we could make official when free agency opens).

Bill Zito will get a far better offer than this for MacKenzie Weegar if he shopped him.

Florida doesn’t need to trade Weegar, they have enough coming off the books next season to deal with him and Huberdeau

I don’t think they have enough to resign Giroux, $4MM in cap space and they need 4-7 skaters
