Why are the Sabres trading down from 16th? They could just trade down from 28 If they want more picks..

I think NJD and MTL take that but not sure CBJ does.

Edit: I just realized a big part of that is BUF accepting the 15oa trade, which makes no sense to me, so throw it all away.

Edit2: just remove MTL from the deal and deal Laine for 2oa. Maybe a sweetener to CBJ.

2 late seconds doesn't get you a mid first.

Stop trading for this Jersey #2. If you are trading for it then you are overpaying.

Its not the draft to trade for a top 2 pick.

2023 draft has about 10 players i'd take over number 2 ranked Slaf.. Bedard, Michkov, Fantilli, Carlsson and Dvorsky would all go before Slaf in 2023, Yager and Sale may surpass him as well.

Draft number 1 and package some picks to move into the middle of the 1st.
This draft has maybe 3 sure things with Wright, Cooley and Nemec along w/a bunch of maybes sprinkled all over. Slaf has had a few good tournaments. Ryan Poehling also dominated WHJC, consistency is the key and Slaf doesnt have much pace to his game. He's another Kakko!

Laine for the 2oa would be interesting. Unknown for inconsistency. Makes more sense than Fiala

First, the trade, doesn’t make any sense. Too many moving pieces.

Now, as for the question, does Laine fit with NJ? Sure, but, it would be an uncomfortable ask from CBJ. Not taking into account that they are divisional rivals, NJ would have to give up 2OA but they would also have to give up a young player from their roster. This player would have to provide the Jackets with a sense that if the 1st round pick doesn’t work out at least they got something of value from it. This is where things get difficult. The Jackets would likely ask for Jesper Boqvist, Dawson Mercer, and the 2nd OA. Now this assumes NJ is signing Laine long term. NJ would likely balk at that. Only other trade that would work value wise is Jesper Boqvist, Holtz, 2nd OA. I just don’t think NJ is willing to pay that price.

A deal where MTL isn't needed. Should CBJ be interested in trading Laine, the obvious target for them is the 2nd overall pick, not the secondary assets MTL has to offer.

Jason Karmanos counters 2022 2ndround pick (NYI) 45th OA plus 2022 2nd round pick (EDM) 61 OA for BUF 41 OA plus BUF 73 OA (Buffalo's 2nd and 3rd).
If Kent Hughes wants the 15th OA he would need to offer MTL 26th OA (CGY) and MTL 33 OA (MTL).
Considering how well Jeramiah Crowe has been drafting the past two years, I think Jason would accept that deal.

Good post! Don't sleep on what Ventura will add to this process either.

Id deal the 26th and 33rd for 16oa. People assuming I would be targeting Slaf with no.2 are wrong here. I don't see why we couldn't take Cooley or Nemac or Jiricek. The reason I targeted NJD is they are willing to deal no.2......I don't see ARI, SEA, PHI willing to deal and none of those mentioned above would be available after that
