Description
Devils/Wild fans which offer would you take? For Minnesota the Holtz deal gets them an NHL ready player with tons of potential and 3 years left on his ELC which is exactly what the Wild need right now. For New Jersey it comes down to what are you willing to give up for Fiala? Alexander Holtz or the 2nd overall pick?

I'd probably take 2A and get Cooley.

In 2 seasons he's your Kaprizov center.

If I was the Devils, I would keep 'em, and go big game hunting for Gaudreau or Forsberg.

From a Devils perspective, I don’t think either will be on the table.

From Wild perspective, I would guess the pick would be preferred since it would be Cooley or Wright.

I'd probably do the 2nd overall for Fiala, Holtz might wind up being a lot better than Fiala down the road.

Very fair but in 2 years Rossi could be your Kaprizov center and you could have Alexander Holtz on his other wing. Not sure New Jersey wants to get rid of their top prospect in Holtz but if they are willing to part ways with him I would personally take that deal.

I'm sure the Wild would love to do this but they can't afford him.

I think the Devils would decline both but if they had to pick I think they would pick the 2nd overall for Fiala proposal.

I’m so curious to see what the actual return for Fiala ends up being. Most fans don’t want to give up anything “painful” to get Fiala. They kinda just want him for a low ball offer. The alternative always seems to be go big game hunting in FA but that’s no certainty and likely much more expensive. Fiala at 7.5 mil over 6/7 years compared to what Johnny / Forsburg gets, that might be 2-4 mil per year savings. And you’re not paying for an aging player on the back half of that deal. Fiala at 31/32 would still be productive. Just look at the regret a lot of teams have with signing expensive FAs in their late 20’s.

most fans want a lowball offer bc they see minny is in a really tough cap situation and fiala is almost certainly on the way out, which lowers his value as we’ve seen in the past. trades like buchnevich and devon toews were terrible but all were born of this specific situation. i’m very curious to see what it ends up being, but i don’t think his value is holtz/2OA high

Yeah I think that’s exactly right, but honestly, this feels like a different situation. Because the Wild do have alternatives if they wanted to. It doesn’t have to be Fiala. It’s Fiala because they think they can get the most value from him IMO. They could easily dump Dumba for a 3/4th round pick and clear cap to re-sign him for 1 year. MN isn’t backed into a corner like many fans think. MN can move Zucc as well. Or Foligno, Greenway, Jost, Kulikov. There is a way to make it happen to keep Fiala. It just feels like Billy has a good idea of what he’s going to get and it’s fairly high. Otherwise I don’t think Fiala being traded would be as high as it is. And I’ll also add that’s it’s Billy G. He somehow managed to get a 2nd round pick for McBain when he was going to lose him for nothing in a few months. And he’s held firm on his ask for Dumba thus far (could change if people force him to keep Fiala). I have a hard time believing Billy G is going to get fleeced.

I think his value is what the market this year says it is. Different market than with Reinhart/Buch/Toews. Looking back I bet a lot of teams that weren’t in on Reinhart/Buch/ Toews sure wish they got involved which would’ve driven up the price. It’s all about how many teams get engaged for Fiala. If it’s only one or two, yeah the return will be lower than we (MN) expected. However, it sure seems like a lot of teams have needs for a scoring winger that’s only 25.

teams are almost never backed into a corner like, i can't trade anyone else besides this player. with reinhart, yeah they knew he wasn't staying there, but not the other ones. that said, reinhart's prob the best comp because like fiala everyone knew he was on the block and i assume a lot of teams were interested. i don't see this deal being two A-caliber assets or one A+ caliber asset. maybe a good prospect and a late first/lower pick or vice versa. but who really knows, the market changes every year

Yep, I’m curious to see how it ends and where he goes. I think the Wild will regret trading him.

yeah, if i were the wild i 100% would be looking to move dumba + kulikov instead of fiala, but from everything i've read it seems like guerin LOVES dumba and has no interest in trading him. very odd.

Completely agree! I wouldn’t say no interest in trading Dumba though, he’s been trying to trade him for 2+ years but has either found there isn’t interest in him or the ask has been too high. It was rumored he was looking for a 1st and a prospect for Dumba, no one came close. Russo has speculated they may just ride this season out and let him walk in FA or if we are out of the playoff picture trade him at the deadline. I personally would 100% move him at the draft.
