No, we are NOT trading for Jake Muzzin. The only LD on your team that we'd be interested in is Rasmus Sandin.

Blackwood >> Mrazek
McLeod > Robertson (but Robertson has a higher potential)

So you think New Jersey would trade the second overall pick in this year's draft (who is expected to be a franchise cornerstone for years) for two seasons of William Nylander?!? And then throw in Alex Holtz?!?!?

IDK about franchise cornerstone. This draft class looks weak to me. More than likely the pick turns out to be a decent middle six forward. Holtz has yet to show anything at the NHL level, so yes, I believe a 26yr old proven 30+ goal scorer is absolutely worth at least those 2.

The kings one doesn’t make sense and the NJD one is insane, but I think the Philly one is actually pretty good

When you draft Slafkovsky & he turns out to be a massive bust, don't say I didn't warn you.

I'm confused by the Nylander hate on this site. Arizona asks for a 1st, Top Prospect & Good NHLer for Chychrun and no one bats an eye. You ask for that for Nylander, a proven point producer & it's absolutely insane?

*2 years of a 30+ goal scorer*

Holtz is 20 years old, and spent the year in the AHL getting acclimated to the smaller ice surface, where he managed to put up a point per game pace. 2 OA will net NJ a key piece to their continued rebuild.

Adding 2 years of Nylander, and subtracting from the future core absolutely does not make them a playoff team in year 1 of that deal, and then they'll have to deal with the probability of him leaving after year 2.

If I was NJ, I would simply keep my assets, and sign one of the big 3 UFA forwards. Or, alternatively, trade for someone that has term that fits their timeline.

Obviously chychrun’s age and contract plays into why he is a more valuable trade piece than Nylander, but regardless, this package is a clear over pay.

Holtz is a high end prospect. Easily projects to be as good as nylander. A team in NJD position with a young core wouldnt do that trade one for one.

Throw in the 2ND OVERALL PICK and it’s an insane asking price.

Nylander is a 2nd line level 5v5 scorer with really good power play point totals. He is a very good piece and I’m sure you could get a decent return on him if you trade him.

This package (holtz plus 2nd overall) is probably almost 3 times more valuable

Holtz just put up 51 points in 52 AHL games. He's played a whopping 9 NHL games and he's 20 years old. LOL

It's always funny how posters want these blue chip young players yet find every excuse to insult them just so they can acquire them at the lowball price they want. Well he's obviously good because otherwise you wouldn't want him. Hilarious!

It's not hate (or at least it isn't in my case...). Chychrun has 3 years left on his (sweetheart) deal, that almost any NHL team can fit into their cap. Nobody is giving up a top 2 pick, top prospect and good NHLer for Chychrun. Not all 1st round picks are alike. Nylander is an excellent hockey player, but that contract doesn't match up with a bottom 5 teams timeline.

I think you're best option would be to offer sheet him. I doubt Toronto could match.

There's no Nylander hate. But most fans know who he is. A skilled scorer and playmaker who avoids hits like the plague.

Can't say I blame him on that one. 230lbs of Cernak coming in hard. You're not getting up after that.

Yeah God forbid you'd take a hit for your team. We can't have that! And the Leafs wonder why they can't get out of the 1st round. They're just unlucky.

not saying this package is it, but nylander is a first line rw on more than half of teams

I honestly wouldn't. I think if anyone drafts Slafkovsky over Cooley, Nemec, Jiricek & even Savoie, they will regret the decision in a few years.

So they're all bad hockey players? Oh only Slafkovsky is. But I bet the Leafs first round pick will be the steal of the draft, right? No bias though.
