I think the Canucks would like to have Matheson added if you could convince him to drop his NTC or settle for Myers

I don't think we'd do the trade if we have to add Matheson

He’d be a 3rd pair LHD making almost 5M for the Canucks, plus with his history with Pettersson I don’t want him anywhere near our team

Stop trading away Pettersson for nothing and trading Marino for Miller.

Neither of those moves make any sense at all for the Pens

I think they make sense. Marino has been regressing last two seasons and we should definitely trade him if the right deal comes along. He can be replaced in free agency and Miller will be extremely valuable. And Pettersson is worth a third, maybe a second if the market is high. I wouldn't call a third nothing, Jake Guentzel was drafted by us in the third round.

Marino's offensive game has regressed since his rookie season, but he is still a very good defensive defenseman. He's signed for 4 more years at a very reasonable cap hit and trading him plus more premium assets for Miller who A) will not produce at the same level he did this year and B) is a rental and will ask for at least $9 million on a long term deal just isn't smart.

Pettersson is worth far more than a 3rd, and having said that, he absolutely should not be traded. Similar to Marino, he's not great offensively, but he is more than good enough defensively and is signed to a very reasonable contract for multiple years. Trading him for nothing, again, is not smart, and just because the Pens hit on 1 3rd rounder doesn't mean they'll do it again. Guentzel is an anomaly, not the rule. It is very unlikely the Pens will get someone as valuable or more valuable than Pettersson with that pick.

Not true. Marino and Pettersson were not consistant defensively either. Both of them constantly were pushed around in front of the net. If we can get Miller it is worth it to trade Marino. We can replace Marino easily in free agency. Manson and others are available. But when I said they both were not great this year I mean both offensively and defensively. Marino had the awful turnover that led to NYR goal. I'm not saying he has no potential, I like him, but if the right trade comes around he's one of our only trade chips to improve the team. What else do you propose? We run it back with the same team? The team needs changes if we want to go all in, more youth, speed, and physicality.
