Wild RFA Offer

Created by: Wolverrobert
Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 3, 2022
Published: Jun. 3, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I can feel the hate posts already. This is a move to compete now if Yzerman is made to feel pressure and abandon some of his patience. I agree it is not likely. This is hoping we aren't in the mix for the lottery. I realize there is a chance we miss out on Bedard as a result. Also, sort of assumes that Trocheck, Strome, Kadri, other UFA centers aren't coming/want too much/aren't desired by management. Does Winnipeg match? Next best RFA center to fit our timeline? Maybe Necas for $4.2M AAV?

That is matched before the ink is even dry. would probably take north of $10M for the Jets to blink

As Jets beat writer, Murat Ates from The Athletic put it:

"The first thing I’ll say is that a contract between $7-$8 million, as you suggest, is not ridiculous at all; I think Winnipeg would love it.

The second is that I think Winnipeg wouldn’t think twice about matching any Dubois contract up to the $10.504 million mark
."

Yea to steal a guy you have to offer him something that his current team WONT or CANT match. in both cases they can and would thank you for saving them money. He likely wants a little more than that.

Plus here you made a trade with Winnipeg, then tried to screw them over with an RFA signing? Why not just make this one trade? add all these peices into the trade and I feel like its just a better approach then what you were trying to do.

If you get Copp, do you even need to make that offersheet?

The chance of us getting another very good roster player with one of those picks is pretty high and this roster looks very good even without PLD.

Put Copp as the 2C, sign Söderblom to start in GR and be opportunistic in case PIT are walking Kapanen or Nylander or another prospect that could fit as a 2RW shows up.

The forward group looks good. The LD is fixed and continuity is secured. Even without PLD, this team will have a good chance of making the playoffs.

What would the Jets ask be in a trade for PLD and Schmidt? I think 1st, 2nd, 3rd is tolerable to me for PLD, but the compensation for a higher offersheet is not. Wings need a top 6 center to move their team forward. NOTHING in the prospect pipeline with that potential. 8 ovr draft pick isn't going to hit that anytime soon, either, even if they take a center, which isn't a guarantee.

I like Copp better as a winger that can fill in at center if needed.

WPG will want an immediate impact player so they can compete, otherwise the likes of Helle and Scheifele will hit the ejector seat.
