1.
VAN
  1. 2022 1st round pick (OTT)
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (BOS)
OTT
  1. Boeser, Brock [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
I feel this is fair, I would probably drop the 3rd and still make the trade assuming one of Jiricek/Nemec is still available at 5 and Philly is willing to trade down.
2.
VAN
  1. Morrow, Scott [Reserve List]
  2. Necas, Martin [RFA Rights]
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (CAR)
CAR
  1. Miller, J.T. ($2,600,000 retained)
Additional Details:
I know CAR fan's think Morrow will be the next Cale Marker but I have yet to see him ranked higher than 49th on any NHL affiliated prospect lists that aren't created by fans.
At half retained I feel this is fair value.
3.
VAN
  1. 2022 1st round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
Only done if one of Jiricek/Nemec are available.
PHI
  1. 2022 1st round pick (OTT)
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Don't know if Philly is willing to move down two spots in order to add a second, I would also be willing to add a 3rd if that would make it work.

2022 3rd round pick (BOS)

Boeser only has two more seasons of RFA left, and teams aren’t giving that high a pick without more guaranteed term in return.

I agree with that. I would assume Vancouver would need to sign him to some sort of extension before trading him to get a better return.

This would make for an interesting draft day that's for sure. I like the moves (personally I'd keep Boeser but I don't hate the move still).

I think the JT Miller deal is very fair. Canucks probably want a 1st round pick, Carolina probably doesn't want to move Morrow. That's usually an indication of a fair trade when neither side is super disappointed but also not super happy with it.

You can drop Morrow and Carolina will consider it. As it is, no brainer pass. Not trading one of the best defensive prospects in hockey for a rental.

Where are Canes fans reading that Morrow is one of the best defensive prospects in hockey? I have seen him listed on ONE NHL affiliated prospects rankings and he was ranked 49th, one spot lower than Jack Rathbone of the Canucks.

You can throw your “fair value” offer out the window since it won’t happen. The Canes won’t trade their top prospect who likely makes the jump to play with Slavin in the next 2 years, alongside Necas for a pure rental. I do think Necas gets moved, but it won’t be for Miller.

Please stop trying to throw Miller at the Canes. It won’t work and it won’t happen. So please stop.

Umm why not just deal with Philly. If the pick was early round 2 I’m sure they’d consider but not at that point… deal Brock to Philly with a 2nd or nice prospect and see what happens

Are you really looking at prospect rankings from his draft class when he couldn't play in his draft year because of COVID? Are you serious?

Well I wasn't expecting you to like the trade, after all you said Morrow is going to be as good as Cale Markar if not better, after saying Makar was possibly the best defenseman to ever live LOL!

Hmm it doesn't appear that you understand what NHL affiliated prospects are, it has nothing to do with his draft class. Feel free to look it up and then come back and comment if you like.

Your link only shows Morrow put up similar offensive numbers (goals, assists, points) to Makar in his first season. Nathan Strauss does not say he's going to be Makar, if I am reading his tweet correctly it looks like his closest comparables are: Stanislav Neckar, Mike Matheson, Alexei Zhitnik, Kris Letang, Scott Hannan, Brendan Smith, Jake McCabe, Mark Pysyk and Slater Koekkoek. Some decent NHL players and one star (Letang).

I had said he has the potential to be as good or better, not that he was.

"Morrow is projected to be at the same level as Makar, if not better. Assuming that’s true, why would the Canes want to trade Morrow if he has the potential to be at the level or better than arguably the best defenseman to ever play hockey."

I will give you that, you did say potential, but you also said he is projected to be, still waiting to see where that claim came form or who is projecting.

Brock is not worth a top 15 pick yet alone a top 10, he is injury prone which decrease his value

hockeyprospecting.com tracks his path, like many other to provide projections. Here is the side by side of Makar and Morrow based on their first year at UMASS.

morrow tweet

i understand the tweet write it up is my a UMASS guy, I am not talking about the author of the tweet but more so the visual there.

I get there are some similar statistics, but I still havent seen anything projecting him to be Makar.

And Makar's similar comp is Hamilton. Which is silly, Makar is already better than Hamilton. The path of growth similar Makar is right there in front of you.

Morrow isnt going to show up on the prospect big lists because he started so low in the rankings that he has to climb up them. No one was sure what Morrow was because he played HS hockey instead of going juniors or development league.

I have to say, I am lost... This tweet is the only "evidence" Cane's fans have been able to produce that someone "projects" Morrow is "going to be Makar" and the projections are completely different! Makar's comparables are/were ALL NHL stars, Morrows are a mix of mostly 2-3rd pair D with one Star and an NHL tweener.

no kidding Makar's comps are all-stars. He is already in the freaking league.

this discussion isnt worth it. Makar is producing better in the same development path as Makar. The Canes will hold on to him to see if he makes the growth in defense like Makar did year 1 to 2. If he does, we are talking about an all-star caliber defender. If not, we are talking TDA level defender and still not worth moving at this point.

Ah you are correct on that one, I miss read the second part of Makar's comparables.
Regardless, just because Makar has far exceeded the comparables he had when he was at UMASS, doesn't mean Morrow is likely to, he's more likely to be similar to his... comparables... Of course there are always outliers but they are called outliers for a reason, it's because it doesn't happen often.

Canes fans will rip your head off for including Morrow. Didn’t you know he’s the best player ever already and he hasn’t even played a game. That’s how good he is.

I think it’s fair. Canes fans won’t be happy with it but I can see Carolina doing something like this

I just don't get these "He's going to be a star" comments when no one can provide any credible scouting reports, lists or comparables that speculate he likely to be anything more than a 2-3rd pairing defenseman. The one tweet I've seen from people saying Morrow is going to be a star says his comparables are 2-3rd pairing defenseman... if that's not homer biases I don't know what is!

I'm all for someone proving me wrong, let's see those predictions!

I'm hesitant to move out huge pieces for Boeser because :

- How much would Boeser sign for? If it's over 7.0 AAV, not as interesting
- his injury history. He is 25 y/o right now but with past and future (?) injuries, how many Top-6 forward seasons does he have left?

I do think Necas gets moved

Would Necas for the 7th OA pick work?

Giroux - Stutzle - Batherson
Tkachuk - Norris - Necas

This needs to happen

As intriguing as that offer is, I don’t think the Canes would go for that. Canes will only move Necas if a roster upgrade is coming back. And at 7OA this year, whoever is selected probably won’t even make the NHL for 2-3 years. The Canes are competing for the cup, not looking to rebuild.
