Trade Explanations:

Islanders Trade:
This is the Sabres trading for their number one goalie for the 2022 season. The Islanders are acquiring a good goalie prospect in Erik Portillo and a fourth round pick, as well as gaining 5 million dollars in cap space. Varlamov would waive his movement clause because the Sabres would give him a chance to be a #1 goalie.

Kings Trade:
This is the Sabres and Kings swapping prospects at positions they have great depth at. The extra fourth is thrown in because of the value difference between a RHD and a LHD.

Flames Trade:
This is the Sabres helping the Flames clear over five million dollars in cap space. The reason Lucic would waive his NTC is because the Sabres would agree to buy him out after the trade. The Flames could sign him after this to a new deal.

Leafs Trade:
The Leafs need to clear cap space and the Mrazek signing has gone about as poorly as it possibly could have. Mrazek would waive his movement clause because the Sabres would give him an opportunity to play in the NHL as a 1B to Varlamov.

Holy commitment. I can't believe you did an entire mock draft in an ACGM all the way to 41. Well put together, the trades seem realistic enough as well

I don't mind this, but feel strongly that UPL will be in the NHL. So reverse the Toronto trade and I'm all set

Awesome. I like picks 9 and 16, and I agree that if the board falls this way that we grab best center/forward available. I kinda hope that pick 28 and 41 are right d, if there is anything close to reasonable (it seems like there's 2 right going in the top 16 and both are going in the top 5). I don't think upl has done enough to guarantee a spot, so im ok with taking mrazek AS LONG AS WE GET VARLAMOV. If upl beats out mrazek, then mrazek goes to Rochester. A second is as little as I would possibly take for mrazek, if adams said "it's a first or try arizona", I would not be upset. Obviously we have to hit the floor, but we absolutely don't need to help our competition for pennies on the way.

Like your picks at 9 and 16, Nazar is a dog. Like trades 1 and 2 and don't mind the Toronto one but think that pick should be a year or 2 earlier.Hell of a job, but wow you had a run on RD in the Draft, some of those guys aren't even ranked in the top 50. Luneau and Chelsey could be there at 28 or around there, maybe Lamoureux at 41.

The Mrazek trade is fine, BUT put him in the minors.
UPL is gonna get his chance

PK Subban is not the right partner at all for Power
He should be with someone steady in his own end that can be a mentor- and that’s just not PK
      Bad idea imo

Pretty sure if Lucic is traded & then bought out, he can’t return to CGY. He could sign elsewhere though

Varlamov seems to be an idea catching steam with Sabres’ fans on here, i like the Talbot idea I’ve been seeing too- especially if he comes in a trade with Fiala

      Not bad overall,
just really hate the PK Subban idea

Subban works, but you need to keep him out of the top four and swap Jokiharju with Subban. He kind of reinvented himself last year and played simpler, and he doesn’t try to make plays that he used to because he can’t, but he’s not a guy I would give 22 minutes a night to consistently more like third pair with spot duty on the second and possible time on the second power play.

I would be curious to see if Granato can revive his career too, because everyone seemed to be revived under Granato

Grans and Johnson is probably the other most popular idea on this board for the Sabres, I don’t understand the straight up portion as much, but I do think there could be something there to work with. But there needs to be more because I don’t see a lot of incentive for LA to make a one for one. I can’t imagine they are desperate to trade Grans and acquire Johnson.

The Lucic idea is a good idea, but the only thing isc, because it’s Lucic and Buffalo and the NHL is the good OL’ boys club, I can’t imagine the organization would want to pay Lucic not to play for them.

I wouldn’t want PK on the 3rd pair either
And i doubt he’d be happy with that
      I’d look in another direction

As for the goaltenders, I think both teams would decline on Mrazek because the Sabres should not be helping the Leafs cap woes, and the Leafs also need the draft capital. He also has a no trade clause, and because of those obstacles, I don’t think it happens.

Varlamov Doesn’t strike me as too concerned about being a number one, but I think he’s more concerned about going to a contender and in the city he wants and I just don’t think that’s Buffalo. He already refused to waive to go to Edmonton which was much better off than Buffalo at the time and would have been the clear #1. I think he wants to go to a contender. Think Washington, Toronto (with creativity), Pittsburgh, or even Colorado depending on what happens with Kuemper

He pretty much was the third pair in New Jersey last year. Ruff gave more minutes to their newer acquisitions Seignethaler and Ryan Graves and then put Subban on the third pair. He performed well in that role.

They may want to add another guy who can generate a little bit of offense and move the puck, and he can still do those things

I dont think portillo does much for us. As much as i like the idea of nyi getting a goalie prospect bc the odds are higher that they can develop him, they are set in net with soroky and already have a couple guys lined up in skarek and lennox after him that look like theyll be solid 2nd goalies behind ilya. Skarek will compete for a spot this season but for sure by 23-24 he should he in the league so portillo doesnt really make sense.
Now to nitpick on your mock draft, i dont think nazar is there at 16 and korchinski fell a lot here. He imo is gonna be gone way before 39.

I did not realize that you can get Lucic cap hit for 1 million in real money, when you trade for him after Flames pay his bonuses. I doubt it will be for 2nd rounder, tough.

Like the draft. Like everything, expect PK Subban. well done.

And weirdly, he hasn’t signed to stay there
Maybe bc he wasn’t happy with his role
Or being on a crappy team

But it doesn’t really matter, bc he’s not good anymore
And hasn’t been for a while now

Why would he want to stay there? He's been their whipping boy for the entire time he has been there. Both sides need to move on.
Well, I mean, Subban he's not the guy of old from Montreal.....but point is, in a reduced role, and for his experience, i'd be more than happy to have him on the third pair. Even at this stage of his career, he's much better than anyone else they have on the bottom pair, and he is still a decent possession defenseman.

He’s not good enough defensively to be the partner for Bryson & anchor down that 3rd pair
They’ll be a liability every time they’re out there

Possession numbers don’t mean your good at “defense”
      And he just never was

He was their “whipping boy” for a reason
      Hard pass
