Liljegren OS

Created by: Stevierebz
Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 5, 2022
Published: Jun. 5, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I wish offer sheets weren’t so taboo, they could really add a dynamic to the resign phase.

Anyways; who would be for this OS? too much of an overpayment? Would Tor be able to match?

Offer sheets are taboo because you inherently need to overpay the player in order to make them successful. In this case, giving a defenseman who has yet to play a complete NHL season, and the time he did spend playing he was on the 3rd pair, who still thinks the game a bit too slowly and has trouble covering his man in front of the net. People are high on Liljegren because his underlying numbers look good and Toronto media hypes him up but he's far from a sure bet to be able to excel in a bigger role and earn this kind of money.

I disagree; in the short term, yes, we need LD. But, in the long term, ie. 2+ years out, we should have Edvinsson, Wallinder, and Johansson manning the Left while after Seider, there’s only Hronek and Lindstrom. I’m not sold that either of them can be an above average second pairing.

Either way, that’s just my preference, this OS can go for either Lil or Sandin.

Anything over 4.2 compensates a 1st rd pick and I don’t think any of these RFAs are worth it in a Conner Bedard draft year

FWIW William Wallinder preference is the right side, And has been playing RD so he's probably going to be replacing one of Hronek or Lindstrom in the next 2 years or so.

By the offer sheet rules, I don't think Liljregrn or Sandin or offer eligible. They haven't played 80 NHL games in the previous two seasons.
Expiring ELCs do not signify eligibility for offer sheets.

Both Sandin and Liljregrn meet the RFA requirements and are eligible for offer sheets but have no arb rights. They are not 10.2c RFAs due to having more than 3 years of professional experience. Because they had contract slides (1 for Sandin, 2 for Liljregrn), they still did accumulate professional years (both of them in the AHL).

I didn't know that...thanks for pointing that out. Going back and re-watching some of his highlights it seems likes he has played mostly on the left side this past year with Rogle. It would nice to have the versatility to be comfortable on both sides.
