This is actually a pretty neat discussion.

This trade wouldn't happen but it would be cool to see what value is needed.

Neither. If you ignore the fact that would never happen, it's probably best done as a pure 1-for-1 hockey trade.

These are two elite players but one is the best at his position and the other… well, there’s a handful of great players like him… it’s a tough call but I think the Avs add

Honestly I’d say even. Both among the best at their position.

Makar is already the best defensemen in the league by far, probably the only guy on the back end that can shut down McDavid one on one, and Tampa would get him for most of his career potentially. Vasilevsky is an A+ goaltender who has been the best in the playoffs, but there's a chance he may be surpassed by some young goaltenders coming up like Shesterkin, Oettinger, Swayman. There are definitely multiple goaltenders who would perform well above average in the playoffs as well. I think it's harder to find a talent like Makar, so Tampa probably adds. No other defensemen in the league is playing with Makars speed and abilities. He's also better than 90% of forwards too.

I'm biased but I still say Tampa adds. Not much but some.
