    Buying out Trouba isn't a good idea. If you want him gone that bad, retaining 50% in a trade is honestly better than the buyout-- and you'd actually get assets back.

    True. Just assuming he'd refuse a trade, this is worst case scenario. I think he's got trade value. Probably pretty high in the mind of some NHL GM's.

    at 50% retained, he has a good amount of value -- $8m, not so much...

    No doubt we'd end up retaining on him, but i'd be surprised if it was 50% Though you're right, it should be.
