Look at the Eichel trade. This proposal is very similar and Eichel had more value than Scheifele.

There wasn't a single worthless piece (like Studnica) in the Eichel trade and none of the pieces going to Buffalo had reduced their value by requesting a trade.

Plus all the players going to Buffalo filled needs for them while both players offered here don't fill a need fir the Jets.

Already acknowledged that Jets fans would say something like that in the description. I think Jets fans overestimate what the return would be.

i agree jets fans overrate schiefele, but bruins fans also overrate debrusk and studnicka

What you hope the Jets get for Scheifele and what they will get are two totally different things.

It actually fits really well. All are expected to miss at least 25% of the season. Plenty of room.

They’re all expected to miss a quarter of the season+. Multiply that 19M number by .75 an try again.

You're also not taking into consideration the cap hits of players that will be removed from the roster after those 3 players return.

It's always awkward when you double and triple down on things but people who know how things actually work see that you're wrong and when they try to point it out to you, you just tell them that they are wrong.

I think the key confusion here is that when you are an LTIR team you don't accrue capspace like you normally would, that is the penalty for being in LTIR. I didn't know much about it until the Jets actually became an LTIR team, so I'm pretty sure this is where the confusion is. Even when you waive 3 guys and save $2,300,000 worth of players, you're still over the cap. Trying to get the extra $1.3M off by going with a 22 or 21 person roster does cause problems whenever there is an injury/illness as you don't have room to call guys up unless you LTIR the person that got hurt.

So you could maybe tinker with the roster some more to become compliant, but additional cap dumps would need to happen as it doesn't look like you'd be compliant with this.

As for the trade, I would expect the Jets to just keep Scheif and see what happens with the new coach before doing a deal like this. Next offseason we could probably still expect to get a 1st, roster player and prospect for him. It's already a '23 1st being offered here so really we lose the value of a 2nd round pick by waiting and maybe get a roster player that we could actually use instead of another winger.

On what planet? They're all 6 month recovery times. I don't know about you. but that comes to late November early December hardly 1/4 of the season.

And FYI that only eats real money not the cap hit which still remains the same.

No, the cap hit is prorated. Thats true of any player, whether or not they’re on LTIR. The NHL season is roughly 180 days. I think the number they use is 183. If a player is on the roster for 100 days, his cap hit is pro-rated at roughly 55% of his AAV.

This team would be cap compliant if the players all make their expected recovery.

Sheesh, it takes guts to be this confidently wrong.

You’re correct that you can’t, “bank,” LTIR space as you can with real cap room. However players cap hits are prorated based on the time they miss. Its the whole point of LTIR. If a player has an AAV of $10M, and is on LTIR for the first 20% of NHL season days, 80% of his cap hit is applied. Cap space is a daily function, not a yearly function.

How has Debrusks trade request reduced his value?

To be fair eichel wanted out of Buffalo and needed a a serious neck surgery and the return was much much more than what’s proposed here.

The Eichel return was definitely better than this (as it should as Eichel is better, but this is still a lackluster return for Scheifele)

Tuch > Debrusk
Krebs >>>> Studnicka
