Defense:
- Trade Defensemen this summer, giving our younger NHL or NHL ready defensemen more NHL ice time.
-Seth Jones isn't going anywhere. Plus, we couldn't recoup enough on him right now to justify moving him. And there aren't a lot of teams that are a good fit currently, especially with his cap hit.
-Murphy and McCabe might not get those kinds of returns, but we need RHD prospects and those are two of my favorites out there.
Offense:
- Qualify and resign forwards now to give them a chance at increasing their value in the 22-23 season. Then if they can show some consistency/bounce back and increase their value, flip them at the TDL for a more valuable return that actually helps the rebuild more than just letting them walk.
- Davidson should ABSOLUTELY qualify Strome. Letting him walk would be awful asset management.
- But, if he doesn't Qualify Strome or trades him, Dach Should get a LONG look at 1C or 2C. I think, mentally, he needs to feel like a leader and a "go to guy" for him to take the next step in his development. So, burying him in the bottom 6 is probably awful for his confidence. When we were still trying to "WIN NOW" it was harder to give him that shot, but now when we are officially rebuilding with some of that "WIN NOW" pressure off I think he can take some big steps. But maybe this happens in 23-24.
- I wouldn't be surprised if Kubalik isn't back in 22-23, but for the sake of giving Kubalik a chance to bounce back and increase his value, I have CHI giving him his QO.
- I always forget Kurashev is as young as he is for some reason. But I definitely think he should be back and they should give him a shot at the top 6 if Kubalik isn't back or is underperforming. He is also pretty good at the dot, and I wouldn't mind seeing more of him at Center if they shuffle things around.
Goaltending - Give Lankinen another shot and take on a CAP DUMP like Mrazek. I think best case for Lanks is he becomes trade bait. Worst case, he just fills the hole while we wait for Soderblom and Commesso to develop.
Overall - Maybe try to get Kane Toews and Cat's future deals done early if they are going to be part of the rebuild plan, but CHI doesn't NEED to do anything this summer. Especially if the plan is to bomb for the best shot at a high pick and, more specifically, Connor Bedard. After watching him a bunch this year with Regina and in the IIHFWC, he absolutely looks like the generational talent everyone is hyping him up to be. They should be doing everything they can to make sure he is a by Blackhawk next summer.
Until I see more activity from Davidson, I find it really hard to speculate on what CHI is going to be doing. So until then, I'm just gonna comment on all of your ACGM's. haha
You can put "cap dump" in caps lock all you want, adding a first and prospect to move Mrazek's contract won't happen.
It took a 13th overall pick for TOR to move one year of Marleau's $6.25mil contract. So moving two years of $3.8mil for a LATE 1st round pick when TOR absolutely needs every scrap of cap space they can get, is absolutely realistic. Adding the prospect and the 3rd is for balancing things out a bit.

After watching who CAR took with that 13th, I highly doubt Dubas makes the same mistake twice.

it took a 1st to move marleau because he had a full no movement clause and would waive for one team only unless another team guarenteed he'd be bought out so he could sign with that team. So the Leafs had to find a team that wanted to take the full cap hit for a buy out or convince the sharks to take him. The sharks wouldnt, so it cost the leafs a 1st to get Carolina to pay him for 2 years and take a full 6+ million dollar cap hit while they were trying to compete that year.
Mrazek is in no way comparable, and this is in no way realistic

Buyout is more likely.
Regardless, this isn't about returns. It's more about moving a few defensemen for whatever we can get and the fact that CHI doesn't HAVE to do anything this summer. Everyone keeps acting like they have to do a bunch of things and be super active. But they really don't. I think stagnation for a year could be quite beneficial for CHI.
That is more understandable, if he looks at that as a mistake. But he needed that cap space at the time, there was no other way around it.
He was paying for someone else's mistake. He also needed the cap space to pay his big boys.
This trade also doesn't take into account that Mrazek is currently our only NHL goaltender. Giving up a first and a prospect to put more pressure on yourself to find and NHL goaltender is not a good idea, at least in my opinion.

For the sake of not hearing all the excuses and reasoning, I'll just take that one off.
yeah, people do keep coming up with excuses and weird reasoning for the leafs needing to give up a tone of assets to move mrazek, i agree
No one wants him and no one wants to help Dubas' with his cap issues for nothing. Holl + a 3rd is not a reasonable payment for that, Holl is practically a cap dump himself. Buying him out works in the short term, but I think TOR is gonna need that $1.4mil in 24-25 and 25-26. There are plenty of cheap options at Goalie, we don't have to take on the cap dump, anyway.

I mean, except for the reports that several teams were interested in mrazek during the season, yeah no one wants him. And why is holl a cap dump? Oh thats right, some leafs fans dont like him despite him being a 2nd pairing defender who can pk, put up some points and play up and down the line up, has size and can skate all at 2 mill for one season.
If holl was a flyer or hurricane people here would be trading 2nds for him all day, but i didnt bring him up so i dunno why you did.
As for mrazek, he's an ok goalie at worse when hes healthy and wont take half as much as people here pretend to move
McCabe doesn't fill a need for WPG. Connor Murphy would be a more likely target - too bad WPG is probably on his no-trade list though.
For sure. Honestly, OTT is probably on his no trade list too. I changed that trade though. Returns and destinations aren't the important part. Targeting RHD, and C prospects, and draft picks is what I wanted to emphasize. Veterans, reclamation projects, and late round picks don't help CHI at all and we are better off just sticking with what we got if we can't get those things. I really think McCabe gets a worse wrap than he deserves and would probably serve a more competitive team well.

I feel ya. But I bring him up because TOR fans constantly connect Mrazek and Holl to CHI as if we would pay for either of them or take some measly payment to take on their contracts, when we have zero interest in them. It was more of a message that says unless you want to help out our rebuild, we don't want your cap dumps. Try telling your own fan base that we don't want them and I'll stop telling them what it is gonna cost.

Tell ya what, you get your own fanbase to stop making bad agms, and ill do the same
Leaving dudes thread alone cuz I don't want to hijack it. haha. But, anyway, I agree that they are not good. So if I don't think they are good and a bunch of people that are fans of the team that the given players are on don't think they are good, it would seem to me there is some sort of consensus going on. I mean... the reality is, there aren't any bad players in the NHL. They are all the best in the world. But we have zero interest in these players or their cap hits, so why would we pay for them. So my response to other people trying to trade them to CHI is that TOR would have to pay us to take them. If you can't pay for us to take on their contracts, either find another trading partner or just deal with them internally. Either way, we don't want em. And if you like them, well, good on you. Keep em. But to all the other guys that don't and want to get rid of them, pay up.

And it's fine to say that you dont want a player for whatever reason, but it always devolves into people complaining about leafs fans as a whole or whatever.

Well, my bad. Just trying to get a point across is all. I got nothing against the Leafs. Honestly, I was rooting for them to go to the Cup final. I mean... it'd be crazy to see a 3-peat in the cap era from Tampa. But I was definitely still rooting for TOR.

Yeah, more of a general thing than just you. Its basically just become a 'well you dont like my agm, well all leafs are bad' and it's worn a bit thin.
Tampa was at least a good series, cant be too mad loosing to them in 7. Dont think they can take colorado though
