Engvall and Holl at about 4mare better than Dickinson at 2.6m. Engvall played his best at LW. Isn't that terrible for Vancouver to pay a first rounder for one year of Zub....yea I know you get rid of Myers for three years.

Engvall is both better and cheaper (and maybe even younger) than Dickinson, and Holl has more value than a 3rd

So is Vancouver trying to compete next year or not? They were brutal this year, and you haven't improved the roster much, if at all.

You're also making it virtually impossible to keep Miller and Horvat next year, which if you're trying to be competitive, you would want to do.

What's the long-term plan here?

Lol it’s super easy to keep Horvat and miller in this team. These trades improved the forward group and the d-core while lessening cap commitments for 2023-2024.

As well, the Canucks weren’t brutal last year, they had 93 points. This helps them take another step and opens up cap space for next offseason to make more additions and position themselves to be a contender.

Obviously this is far from a perfect offseason since Van is trading away a 1st. I mostly made this just for fun trying to only add from other Canadian teams, but it’s still a reasonable path to taking another step next year and contender in the next 2-3 year

Holl is only included as a cap dump, ditto Dickinson.

Dickinson was very good in Dallas but brutal in Vancouver. Imo he needs a fresh start and I have seen Holl-Dickinson swaps in here before. It’s basically 2 trades, Holl for Dickinson and engvall for a third.

And yeah, that Ottawa trade is not a good long term move for vancouver but getting out of the final year of Myers contract imo is very important. Not worth a 1st but it’s something I’m sure vancouver is exploring options for

I mean if you adjust the contracts (to their appropriate worth) than some deals are fine. The Vancouver Toronto one would be a base and their would need to be a little bit more going back to Toronto. Not much though. Ottawa probably declines cause Zub alone is worth a 1st + and then Ottawa is getting nothing for taking on Tyler Myers and that would not happen. I'd say that Edmonton one is fine although Edmonton may want to keep the Foegele - McLeod - Puljijarvi line together cause that turned out to be a very good line in the playoffs.

Holl is not a cap dump. That is where you are first wrong. He is a valuable third pairing defenseman on a decent contract. He can also play up to 20:00 minutes and kill penalties. If that is a cap dump that almost everyother defenseman in the league is a cap dump. He is not even on a big cap and Toronto is actually taking more money back and they would love to keep Engvall.

Also, you have no idea how much Ottawa fans and managment like Zub if you think that that deal is bad for Vancouver. It's actually bad for Ottawa as Zub could easily return a 1st + and then you're not paying for the Myers contract.

The old "fresh start logic". Leafs need a 7th Dman 2m Holl for one year a lot more than the underachieving 2.6m Dickinson for two years. Engvall was 35 point player a plus player playing 3rd and 4th line minutes. His playing value and his cap value is certainly worth more than 3rd liner.
Even if the Leafs just gave Holl away or even bought him out at 600,000 X 2, the Leafs are better with Engvall than Dickinson.

Yes yes all very true. but consider that I would rather ignore reality and make AGM’s that over benefit my team while disregarding the needs of other teams,

Oh no, you're sounding like the high % of "homers" that make team friendly rosters for their "own" team.
