Description
I hope Dryden McKay signs with the Hawks. They have a goalie situation that they need to solve and he's really good. I personally don't think signing McKay will hurt the probability of signing Commesso.

I never actually seen any ANA beatwriter/reporter/etc mention anything about interest in Kubalik, all of that appeared to be done by Chicago sportswriters

Cant see us giving up a second for him at all, maybe a 4th at most

If neither team likes it, it may be time to put the trade to rest.

In fact, no ACGM thread should have Mrazek's name in it, ever. It's drawn out and tiring.

that doesn't mean he can't a NHL deal with any team in the league

I didn't see that until just recently and I'm shocked that he wouldn't even sign a 2-way deal...just an AHL contract.

I'm not sure how that would work though. Don't the Marlies have his rights for next season?

I thought the name sounded familiar, didn't see him on TOR's CF page.

That's what caught me off guard too. It's only an AHL contract. Not an NHL 2-way contract. Thoughts?

the Hawks could lend him to the Marlies but the Hawks would have to get Toronto's ok with that

I'm honestly not sure how that works.

Without digging into the legal jargon, I would assume that TOR has first dibs at signing him to an NHL deal. They could opt to let him talk with other teams.

The Leafs seem to love signing over age college or European goalies....hoping they turn into NHLers.
I thought the McKay might have signed with another organization since the Leafs seem to have a fair number of goalies like McKay. 24 year old college players, and goalies under six feet really don't have a route in the NHL in most cases.
Good luck to young Mr McKay. If he can't crack the Marlies, the Leafs would surely accommodate him to team that could use at the AHL immediately.

He's suspended until Oct for a positive PED doping test.
(Accepted by the governing body that it was accidental, from an improperly labelled supplement, but suspended anyway).

He'll be looking to prove himself / rehab his image with the Marlies in the Leafs organization.
Leafs org has recent history of this type of career rehabilitation signings (Ho-Sang, Galchenyuk, etc.)

Just now seeing this 11 hours later. My only gripe is that it is a 2024 pick. Other than that I'm good with it.

We talked a little a out this already, exo. But I did a little digging yesterday. They are completely separate governing bodies. Which would lead me to believe that McKay could technically do whatever he wants and sign an NHL contract. He just might incur some sort of penalty from the AHL. That or TOR might want to sign him and then receive some sort of compensation. But i couldnt find anything specific on how that might work.

I think where it gets tough is that, just like the Blackhawks now own the Ice Hogs...The Leafs own the Marlies. It's my understanding from other posts (nothing official) that he can sign an NHL contract with the Blackhawks, but they can't send him to Rockford because he already has an AHL contract. So the Hawks would need to keep him on the NHL roster OR ask the Leafs (essentially) to either allow him to play for the Ice Hogs or even the Marlies. That part would be up to Dubas and co.

Yeah. Well, depends on if they have a separate GM for managing their AHL contracts. But yes, they are owned by the Maple Leafs. That does make sense though.
