Stacked Top 9 - BOS and LAK Trades

Description
Hearing BOS could start a rebuild and it makes a lot of sense. They have an old core and some long term injuries to some key players, plus could lose Bergeron if he retires which would be a massive blow. Hall's NMC converts to a 16 team no trade list this offseason and I doubt COL is on it. I assume they would want picks and prospects in return

With Byram looking like a stud I think Girard becomes expendable. Not sure what LAK would be willing to move but they need LD and have a crazy amount of RD: Doughty, Roy, Durzi, Walker, Spence, Clarke, Faber, and Grans. Girard seems like a good fit for them to fill out the left side. COL gets a good 2 way middle 6 winger and a RHD to play with Byram. If this doesnt work for LAK then I like Mikheyev as a UFA signing in place of Iafallo and Girard can stay in place of Roy

Bring back Nichushkin and Lehkonen to round out the wingers in the top 9 and this is maybe the best defensive forward group Ive ever seen. Neither Compher or Newhook (yet) are legit 2Cs but when surrounded by wingers like this I dont think it will be a problem. With a top 9 like this they could always shift Rantanen to 2C and move Lehkonen/Nichushkin up the lineup

I like both Maatta and Edler as UFAs to fill out the 3rd pair. Im not sure what either of them will cost but I went with the younger option in Maatta here for 2x2 which I think is in the ballpark. Adding Marc Staal as the 7th D man is like next years version of the Jack Johnson signing

I like Holtby as a cheaper goalie alternative to Kuemper/Campbell/Husso/etc. He has cup experience and bounced back nicely in DAL last season. With Oettinger as their starter I think Holtby will be going to free agency anyway. He could form a nice tandem with Francouz

Until Faber is ready for 20+ minutes, Roy will not be traded. He's the best stay-at-home guy the Kings have. Iafallo could be a piece for a Girard trade, but I think LA is looking to change the size dynamic of their D-corps with the guy they get this summer. I don't think Girard fits that bill.

Fair enough. Out of curiosity whats the plan on RD for next season?

Boston won't "rebuild" they'll simply re-tool. At long as they make the playoffs that's all Papa Jacobs cares about. That's the bear minimum Sweeney Co needs in order to not get fired.

    Anderson-Doughty
    X-Roy
    Bjornfot-Durzi/Spence
    Edler

“X” is any of Chychrun, Sergachev, Girard, Provorov, etc.

Iafallo and Grans for Girard could be reasonable. For the reasons set forth by my esteemed colleague @PuckLuck_77, I don't think that we'll be trading Roy.

Best guess? Barring trades, Game 1 I think it goes Doughty-Roy-Durzi on the right and Anderson-Bjornfot-Walker on the left. I think the Kings will look to trade Walker, but many teams will want to see how he comes back from injury before pulling the trigger, and he has experience on both sides of the D-corp.

Clarke might push for a spot in training camp, but barring LA trading Durzi (which I think is just as likely as any trade to happen this summer -- sell high on a guy who impressed), Clarke -likely- gets sent back to the OHL for one more year purely based on asset management.

If the Kings go after Chychrun, all bets are off in terms of which RD they end up running. Gone will be one of Grans, Durzi or Spence (plus other assets, of course), since the Kings will likely be keeping Doughty, Roy, Clarke and Faber off the table. But that opens the door for Clarke on 3RD due to Spence still being waiver exempt.

Sakic didn’t make a massive push to get Taylor the last 3 times he was available just don’t see the fit.

Girard could be leveraged for a scoring forward, don’t know that I see the fit with LA though.

Im pretty sure Sakic was interested in Hall both as a UFA and on the trade market before. Nothing got done obviously but its not like he wasnt interested. Isnt Hall a scoring forward? How is that not a fit but you could see Girard being moved for a scoring forward?

Personally I think Sakic would be willing to roll into next year with Mikko, Landy, Nichushkin and Lehkonen at the wings in the top 6, now what he thinks of Newhook as the 2C. As for Hall I don’t think they ever pushed particularly hard considering the package AZ traded for him, the fact he signed a 1 yr contract the following year or the small package BOS sent to BUF for him. As for Girard I think he could be moved for assets including a cost controlled winger but I honestly haven’t thought a ton about it, though I do believe if they did move him it would be as much a move to clear space for re-signing Manson possibly.
