sweeney has been pretty good trade wise. his biggest misses were early drafts which is an organizational issue not just sweeney, and his ufa signings (most of these have just been terrible)

His trades for the most part have been good but not enough. Last year he picked up Hall (which basically fell onto his lap) but did not do enough else wise. This year he picked up Lindholm but the team still needed more help. He just does not add enough. Drafting is terrible and UFA signings are the worst.

Sweeneys problems trade wise has been that he hasnt made the 2nd move thats always been needed. this year we needed depth scoring. we needed another middle 6er for when frederic fell off or smith got hurt. someone to fill that hole and they just didnt make the move. foligno shouldnt have played this playoffs he was just not good out there. (coaching issue?)

last year we didnt have the depth dman to cover if carlo got hurt. (why they brought forbort in btw).

Drafting wise has been better in the past ide say 2 drafts there are some quality prospects but again its an organizational thing. sweeney picks the plays the scouts do the research on. imo there are busts in every draft. chiarelli sucked at drafting too. nobody harps on that. sweeney inherited an empty prospect pool.
