Avs have no incentive to make this trade. Girard is affordable and Compher has been a stud in the playoffs.

What would need to be added, viewed compher as basically a dump so could remove him if you perceive he has value

If they wanted to give a goalie that kind of term they would have signed Ullmark last summer.

Who, Buffalo? Hamilton said the Sabres matched or exceeded the bruins offer for ullmark, he walked away. Which probably is for the best.

And there is the fact that campbell is better, really not a bad contract when you have the space the sabres do

I'm sure I saw the same things you did, Sabres interested in Campbell and pk subban. Campbell is fine, maybe have to bump the money up a bit, I think some average goalies are gonna get paid this year. I don't love pk subban, but we don't have to give up any assets at least. Really wanted a defensive d.

Yes I have seen the reports although I am not sure how credible they are. Subban has kind of reinvented his game last two years. By no means is he what he was but he is much more consistent defensively. Also both Campbell and Subban are amazing people by the sounds of it so I dont mind

Plus there's the added bonus of not taking mrazek and myers

Lol because every leafs fan believes buffalo is just lining up to solve their cap issues cause they need a goalie and they will throw in the 9th best prospect

Avs say no, not sure why they would move out a young top 4 defenseman with term for all futures.

Olofsson/Compher seems to be pretty much a wash for the middle 6 depending on the role each is given. Olofsson has more offensive upside but has been inconsistent. Compher is one of those players that fans hate but coaches love and plays wherever in the lineup. All things equal, I’d prefer Olofsson probably but not enough to balance out the rest of the trade.

A year ago, I’d say compher would make sense as a cap dump, but he’s been solid this past season, and with his versatility, if Colorado loses Kadri, they’re going to need him for his depth and versatility.

The reason why I suggested Girard since I posted an idea on this is that first off, it would be assuming the Avs win the cup and are now reloading for the long term. Moving Girard’s 5 million salary gives them some long term flexibility and it opens up more of an opportunity for Bowen Byram, although Colorado isn’t hard pressed against the cap. They do need some draft picks and prospects to restock their cupboard long term, and the long term flexibility and a nice to have.

But because of Girards age, contract, and because Colorado isn’t screaming to move him, it would take a hell of an offer. It may even take 16 OA. I don’t think Victor Olafsson makes sense here because they don’t need him, but Ryan Johnson would make loads of sense.

It really depends on who Colorado brings back next season and how they want to approach long term. They may look at an opportunity to restocking the cupboard if they win the cup so they can sustain their success long term.

Colorado is dealing from a position of strength, and if it took 16th OA for a young top for D, I’d easily do it

If the AVs win the cup, they probably consider it, so try can restock their cupboard and give themselves some cap flexibility down the road, but it might take more than 28th OA. You’d likely need to do 16th OA and Johnson and maybe another asset or pick for them to consider

Think about it this way: if you drafted a player at 16 and they turned into Sam Girard, would you be happy or disappointed? You would be THRILLED. If you knew that they had a 100% chance of being Sam Girard, you would be ecstatic.

Conversation on Girard almost certainly would include that pick and then a few more assets. The ask would be closer to Chychrun than just a bunch of scraps. Can’t see anyone being willing to pay the price the Avs want unless the Avs got into a cap crunch with Byram/Newhook’s upcoming extensions

The term is what I do not like or believe they will give whoever they pick up. IMO Campbell and Ullmark are very similar . Injury prone, streaky and roughly both have .915 career save percentages.

Yeah I just think he is going to take a two year deal unless it is for a major overpay

Although I agree, this is not a bunch of scraps by any means, basically equivalent to 2-2.5 first round picks. As well as it frees up cap that you will need for mackinnon, possibly nichushkin, burakovsky, byram etc.

It frees up cap, but then you have to go find another top 4 defenseman in free agency. Which will cost like… $3.5-4M minimum for a player that will likely be older and maybe not as good as Girard.
