Alternative to re-signing Paul - Puljujarvi

Created by: CoopsTroops
Team: 2022-23 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 8, 2022
Published: Jun. 8, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pick up Puljujarvi to solidify the Top 6 for the next 2 years.
--- Too bad we don't have Volkov to offer anymore :p

Paul is nice, but keeping Paul probably forces Stamkos back to the wing after he's had one of the best seasons of his career after playing mostly center.

Stamkos, Point, and Cirelli is still extremely strong down the middle and we still have Colton in reserve if anyone goes out due to injury.

Is it possible we just put Paul at wing and allow Stammer to stay in the middle? I’d rather have Paul and our first round pick than Puljujarvi and Koekkoek.

its going to cost more than a very late first for pulju. The prospect from TBL side doesn't really move the needle. I'd say a 2nd+ Colton or Hagel should get it done

I don't know if I like Paul on the wing. Sure he can play it, but he seems most effective down the middle.

If we want to keep Stamkos-Kucherov together, I think Point needs another winger capable of playing with a talented center.
Personally, I like this better than with Paul.
Koekkoek is only here because I don't like our D prospects ability to make the leap next year and I'm no more a fan of any potential low cost FA's. He could also give us the ability to move Sergy up with Hedman for an extended period.

Fair enough. I will say I’m intrigued by the potential of Puljujarvi. He seems like he’s inching towards a breakout season where he could contribute as a scoring power forward, similar to Val Nichuskin (who TB may have trouble containing if we play COL in the SCF). We could certainly use a young, big frame winger in our top 6.

      Holy overpay!
I based my offer of what I've seen on here so far, but I agree most have been coming in low. Hagel plus Colton and a 2nd is ridiculous though.

I'd do 2022 1st, 2023 3rd, and prospect of choice. Otherwise I'd just keep Paul.

Ya gotta remember the Sabres don't need to do anything like that so if any team is interested in unloading a player with a $6.875M cap hit for two more seasons, it's gonna cost more than a 1-round switch from a 4th to a 3rd. In fact, it'll cost more than a 3rd rounder by itself for a team wanting to do that, especially a team in Buffalo's division.

depending on the prospect idk if tampa has any good prospects, that deal might work out, I just don't see holland trading him for something that isnt a overpay

You guys have Skinner, but I'm not sure what the rest of your goalie pool looks like. I'd be willing to throw in Alnefelt. He's probably a 1B option if he develops to his potential over the next 2-3 years.

well we got skinner, kovovalov, fanti and rodrigue. Kono is going to play in russia for a bit so BAK would need a backup. I'm hoping we take a goalie in this years draft tbh

it's a LTIR contract. It won't cost a 1st to move. It helps BUF more than it does TB. BUF can get to the floor and Seabrook was used as a cap cheap for LTIR purposes.

I get it, but in no way can anyone justify dishing out $9M in actual salary over the next two seasons to move up from 106 to 91. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Yes and by the way, Nick Paul played most of his time on LW in Ottawa. We always thought he was better there

Sign him and play him LW

Keep your 1st round pick to acquire (steal) Connor Brown at the deadline. He'd look fantastic on a team like Tampa.

A Paul - Cirelli - Brown line would kick some serious ass

Im surprised Brown isnt already on the Lightning lol. Seems like the type of player we target year in and year out.
