Tell you what- Toronto will even send over Bracco... never mind. Toronto happily accepts.

Not enough for Saros, Toronto doesn’t need Ekholm, or his contract(they have enough expensive LD) Edmonton can't afford that

This is my problem. I have no idea what draft picks are really worth

1. I was afraid of overcharging for Saros

2. What team do you suggest?

3. What if there was retention on the RyJo trade?

Three LHD making more than $5M? Not really a good way to spend what little cap space they have.

Ekholm would be a great fit, but it isn't realistic. Even if this is all that NSH is looking for in return, which probably isn't the case.

Hard to say what Johansen's trade value is after his rebound season, but you're definitely not getting enough value in any of the other trades.

Trenin's next contract is probably going to be in the $1.5-2.5M/yr range, depending on how much term he gets.

If Saros was available a bidding war around 10 teams would likely ensue - could get way more imo

Well you see, it's rather simple. The lower the number of round, the more worth the draft pick has. 1sts are the best, 7ths are the worst. 7ths are worth almost nothing because the chance of a 7th making the nhl is extremly slim, 4-6 are worth a decent amount but not much (you can usually get 4th line/ bottom pairing guys with these), 2nds and 3rds are worth a little more (bottom 6/ bottom 4, decent backups perhaps), and the value of a first greatly depends on the first. They can range from very, very valuable, to not any different from a 2nd.

Not to mention the Leafs currently have 5 good left handed D men, only one of whom is fully comfortable playing the right

Of course it isn't realistic. But if Nashville is selling him for that cheap, Toronto should absolutely do it, and move someone to the right side.

I would say find a way to package Ekholm and Saros to Edmonton. take back Duncan Keith and Kassian to help make cap work but they need both a legitimate starting goalie and a LHD to help take the load off of nurse

That's fine, I'm not against it.

Where does the $6M+ in cap space come to bring Ekholm in? We'd have to send at least one contract back, upping the price of this trade.

And please, for the love of all things good, don't say trade Muzzin.

NGL, I’d take that for CBJ. Three years of RyJo at $4M per year? Sure.

Problem is, I think both CBJ and him wiped their hands of each other when he was traded. Things ended very poorly for him here.

I already said this is not happening, I'm just saying at that price it's a "do it and figure out the rest later" trade. As for Muzzin, would it not make sense to trade him in this scenario lol? Possibly Nylander. Maybe you can scape by by trading Mrazek, Kerfoot and Holl.

Was just trying to generate a discussion, there's finally some dialogue on a thread that doesn't include a debate on Mrazek/Holl/Kerfoot's value.

I think it would be difficult for TOR to move Muzzin, and that's not taking into account his NTC. He's got some hard miles on him, plus his injury history.

Considering the lack of depth scoring in the playoffs, shipping out Nylander to bring in another defenseman doesn't seem like a good idea. Moving WN at all isn't a good idea in my opinion.

I agree with your points. I don’t think trading Nylander is a good idea unless it’s to clear cap space and sign someone, or for 2 player that have similar production that Nylander would, or for a good starting goalie.

Doesn’t make much sense for Chicago. Saros will be a UFA and 30+ years old before they’re ready to compete. Not giving up what is likely a top 5 pick plus a lot of other draft capital for that.
