Interesting swap Fergy.

Laine is younger; a proven consistent 30 goal scorer who had 44 goals in a season.
He's younger than Bert. He didn't play a full season last year.
He's on a restricted contract.

Bert might be better defensively but his most recent season stats are his first time being close to a ppg player & that was with Larkin & Raymond.
He adds more grit to a lineup.
He only has 1 year left on his contract but if he's extended it should/would be less than the cost for Laine.

I’d rather have the RFA who will be on a 5+ year contract vs the UFA who likely walks at the end of his contract.

Just for the sake of conversation, there would have to be significant adds from the Red Wings to get this trade done.

Detroit declines. Bert is cheaper, plays both PP and PK and is much better defensively.
