Ken Holland Masterclass 2023

Created by: Dunda
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 10, 2022
Published: Jun. 10, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Here's how I believe Ken will handle this off-season.

Keith won't retire, we're gonna lose Yams and/or Jesse. Ryan Rishaug, says we're prioritizing Yams over Jesse, but who knows if that's even true. Kassian buyout, Kulak on a bargain to stay. Kuzmenko in for a season.

Kane posted a farewell tweet, but I am going to assume that Ken will try to keep him so here's the absolute BAG this mf gets.

Various Detroit based moves.

Despite this, we still manage to not be ass thanks to the efforts of our younger core (Bouchard, McLeod, Holloway, Broberg and maybe Lavoie).

Finally an Oilers ACGM without Keith retiring or traded with a NMC and Smith not retiring. Bravo. Realism

Everything looks good. I just dont like betting on so many kids in the McDrai window. They need to be a bit more bold here IMO

Detroit will accept this but their 3rd in 22 is reserved for other trades. Will Albin Grewe + a 4th suffice?

This is well done. I’m concerned with the goalie situation though - I don’t trust Smith and Skinner is unproven. I also think we lose the Detroit trade quite badly, which is unlikely to happen anyway as it will result in the Red Wings taking on about 5M in salary once they sign Pullijarvi.

This is well-done. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see Holland make these moves or similar this off-season.

And appreciate a trade with Seattle that doesn't involve Barrie and a usual overpay!

Well done? You gave away a premium right shot puck mover and a young very high potential top six winger for a 3rd and Erne...... Chiarelli would get a better return for just one of them in his sleep than you got combined. Look what Holland paid for an expiring kulak Barrie is a right shot with term and significantly better resume. Paying a second to move the final year of an LTIR contract? Wtf is the point of that? I love Gagner wouldn't mind him as an extra forward option but putting him in a third line role at this stage of his career. Playing a lefty rookie on the right side defense to start the year. Do these issues fall in line with a team that's looking to improve upon a final four appearance? I will give credit contract numbers look pretty reasonable.

    Hell NO!

This trade already favoured the Wings. Other trades, what, I honestly had to check if there was a stipulation to the pick but no lol You are reserving it with hypotheticals in your own head. That is so wild!
You are getting assets for the 3rd rounder. Far too much
Jesse has a lot of value and Barrie will have value at retention if Leddy had value at the TDL. I never would have made this trade but I dont like to critique everything like some here, rhythms with Whim happy^ ^ ^

Detroit is having to acquire 2 LD this offseason, the going rate for the targets appear to be a 3rd round pick and LD has absolute priority ahead of helping other teams with their cap. I offered a B- prospect in addition to a 4th instead of the 3rd, that's not unreasonable.

That makes no sense and yes, you are unreasonable and quite frankly, out of touch from reality. Just because you are helping a team with their cap doesnt discount the assets involved. Carolina was helping the Hawks with their cap and got Teuvo Teräväinen. Does that make Teuvo as meaningless as your making Pool Party?! Of course, not!

There there, we'll make it through the summer together, buddy.

Let's tackle this trade. Tyson Barrie, 3rd pair deployment below Cody Ceci and Evan Bouchard, plays PP1 with *checks notes* Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl and makes 4.5 million per year. Jesse Puljujarvi, a player I personally adore but JUST had our very GM express doubt about him during a very public press conference.

Our GM, a man that had all the leverage in the world decided to trade Caleb Jones and a 3rd for ancient Duncan Keith with ZERO retention.

Where in this equation lies our leverage in moving either player? Kassian is gone, Erne is a physical defensive minded player, with size, and he actually has a brain unlike Zack. 3rd is earned by effectively making Barrie only cost them 2.4 mil.

Separate from this, Ken has mentioned moving Klefbom's contract, so it will probably happen. Gagner is fair to be apprehensive about, our options on RW are tough with 2 mil remaining and do you expect Ken to make a reasonable trade to acquire anyone for the role of top 9 RW? Gags had a great year and played 3rd line time, he would do just fine with Nuge and Kuz.
