Wild say no.

Not nearly enough coming back our way to justify moving Fiala in this scenario.

Out of curiosity what do you see the return being? A 1st, a 2nd, and an NHL ready prospect felt pretty fair since Minny can’t take on any Salary.

Thank you for the reply

Just my opinion, and butting into your interaction a bit, but a first 3 drafts from now from a top team in the league doesn't feel like the value a "first" generally carries in trade talks.

Agreed.. the 24' 1st doesn't really carry much value at all here. A 23' 1st would be more likely, although I get the feeling Guerin prefers to make a cost-controlled elite forward prospect the focal point of a trade for Fiala.

No problem.

First off. Welcome to CapFriendly. It's not always cordial, and there're plenty of trolls here. But there's a solid group of regulars here as well. Pay attention, and you'll soon see who to talk to and who not to.

That said, one more bit of friendly advice. Use the quote system to respond to comments. Whenever you do, the commenter will be able to see it through their notifications bell, at the top of the page. It'll always notify if someone responds via a quote, likes their comment, or if they have a particular thread watched (used by the watch thread button on the top of any given page).

I wouldn't of known you had responded to my comment if you hadn't liked it. Since I didn't click the watch thread button for it, at least not this time. Which not everyone does, if at all. Lol.

Now, as for the value.

In a vacuum, it is, or is close to it at least. But it's not a good trade for us, for two primary reasons.

1) Allison and the 2nd are more or less fine here.

It's the 1st itself that isn't enough and where it falls apart. That pick is two plus years out, which doesn't do Minnesota a damn bit of good when moving a PPG 80+ point winger who's only 25. Frankly, the 1st coming back to Minnesota needs to be either in this year's draft (22'), or in next year's draft (23'), for it to be worth it to us to consider moving Fiala. A late 1st in 2024 isn't going to cut it.

2) Not all 1st's are created equal, and where a 1st likely slots is going to determine how valuable it is.

A pick in the top ten is going to blow a pick in the late 20's away in terms of both value and how good of a prospect we could draft in that spot. Same for a pick in the teens.

It wholly depends on what offers are on the table. If Ottawa offers us 7th OVA and a prospect like Jarventie, that beats this return hands down. What if New Jersey offers us Holtz and a 2nd for Fiala? Again, that beats this pretty handily. The Isles can offer the 13th OVA and one of Wahlstrom or Raty for Fiala.

And those are just the 3 teams who are confirmed to have high interest in acquiring Fiala.

So far.

You forget that the Kings themselves will likely be a potential destination for him as well. It would be counter-productive for them to do this if that's the case. And they have the prospects to spare given their current prospect pool to get a deal done without involving the Flyers, plus their own 1st they can throw at us.

So you can see where a late 1st that's 2+ years out, a 2nd and prospect like Wade might not be enough and why we would be looking for something better or more out of this.

Good idea, but bad execution. MIN would need an earlier 1st, and the prospect would have to be quite a bit younger than Allison.

Sanheim is a very good d man Flyers say no. Fiala's numbers will not be the same away from Kaprizov and he's gonna want major $$$$'s.

Appreciate the feedback all, my perspective as someone not in the Minnesota market is that the Wild won’t have much leverage in moving Fiala this summer because of the Parise and Suter contracts impacting the cap and that he is essentially a player who needs to be moved. I do agree with the points made that the ‘24 FLA 1st is the most unsavory of the Philly’s picks, but I know that the Flyers aren’t moving their 2023 picks and 5th overall this year felt steep, unless you changed it to a 1-for-1 swap of Fiala for the pick - and in that case it leaves Philly pressed against the cap which was way Sanheim was also moving in the deal to free up salary room. Appreciate the cordial discussion. It’s certainly refreshing compared to what I experience even from my own Flyers fans in some rooms

1) Fiala doesn't play with Kaprizov, Zuccarello does. Fiala played with Boldy this year to hit his 85 point season. A rookie.

The only time Fiala and Kaprizov share ice is on the PP/man advantage or in OT.

2) He's only going to get somewhere in the $7-8M range on his next contract on a long-term deal. Which he's absolutely worth. Whether Philadelphia can afford that isn't his issue.

He knows what he's worth.
