Description
This is going to be mainly Kakko. I was just curious since Kakko was scratched from game 6, either maybe Gallant doesn't trust him anymore or if there were other players in the lineup that are going to be more valuable than him such as Lafrienre etc. They also need deals and would probably cost more than Kakko. If Kakko isn't the player you would need anymore, would you match that offer sheet or let him go to another team?

St Louis trade is another one I'd seen, but instead of a 2nd. I included a goalie prospect and a 3rd if they needed one considering husso may be leaving.

I think if you offer Kakko longer term then it will make the Rangers think a little more, and they could be stuck with another Kotkaniemi. KK, funny enough was also scratched in the Cup Final last year which upset him, and reportedly made him want out of Mtl.

That is always the thing with players, they have to sign the offer sheet, as players like Marner didn't sign an offer sheet in Columbus. I think they will match regardless tho

There's no way the Canucks should retain on Garland, that's $2.5m of dead cap for 4 years

Can't imagine New York wouldn't match that offer sheet. Needs more term, and maybe more salary before they'd really consider letting him go with just a 2nd coming back.

NYR matching the offer for Kaako really just depends on what UFA's they want to bring back. They obviously know that if they sign Copp and Vatrano/Motte, Kaako can be offer sheeted for 4 mill and NY won't be able to match. Assuming no trades are made, if they sign only Motte (probably around 2.5 mill), and match an offer for Kaako at 4.2 mill for two years (2nd rounder compensation), then they will have around 13 mill to re-sign Chytil, Lafreniere, K'Andre Miller, Reaves (or a cheaper replacement), and a backup goalie the next year.

Someone could offer sheet Lafreniere 6.3 mill with 1st and 3rd compensation, meaning they have to match or lose him. If they match, then there is about 6 mill for the rest of the players they need to sign, and if another offer sheet comes in at 4.2 mill for either Chytil or Miller, they have to choose between the two, so they will lose one probably. And now there is about 2 mill left to sign a dirt cheap backup goalie and 4th liner. Overall, if they don't sign any UFA and make zero trades, they might lose one of Chytil, Lafreniere, Kaako, or Miller to offer sheet, and if they sign Copp/Vatrano/Motte, its pretty much a guaranteed loss of one of those RFAs for only a second rounder. Of course this is all assuming no trades or buyouts to free up cap space, which if they did, they would probably be able to keep their RFAs.

I know offer sheets don't happen often because GM's don't like to be arseholes, but offer sheeting Chytil, Laf, Kaako, or Miller for 4.2 mill is literally switching out a 2nd rounder for a 1st rounder. I would think that every GM would be all over that if they like the player

The Blues are well set with goalie prospects, so no thanks.

Kupari isn't a prospect, he's earned a place on our third line next season; Vancouver won't be retaining; and our good prospects aren't being sold for draft picks any more.

True if they do sign Copp and Vatrano/Motte. I just wonder if Kakko would be a good fit for the Canucks if we were able to get him.

I know, but the Rangers cap situation doesn't really change until the year after they hit RFA. All the big contracts are locked up for the next 4-5 years too. The only two main ones coming off the books the year after are Lindgren and Nemeth and its only 5 mill. Im saying if the Rangers sign a UFA like Copp, and sign Kaako to 4.2 mill since he might be offer sheeted, the next year they will not have enough cap space to keep all of Chytil, Lafreniere, Miller. So they can either decide to sign zero UFAs and keep Kaako and then have a better chance at re-signing Miller Laf and Chytil, or they can decide to let Kaako go, maybe sign one UFA, and keep Chytil Laf and Miller the next year. On top of this, their cap will be maxed out with all the RFA signings in the next two years, leaving Lundqvist and Schneider vulnerable to offer sheets too.

In my opinion, I think they should make use of their RFA's that they would be okay losing, trading them for cheap rentals. Keep guys like Miller, Laf, Schneider, maybe Chytil. Sign Copp, maybe Motte. Trade guys like Kaako and Lundqvist for a rental. Basically keep the guys that are good on the team, and give yourself a better chance in the playoffs by trading the guys with less impact for rentals with retention.

Not sure if he would be a good fit. But if we can get him for a 2nd rounder offer sheet then I would do it. I think it would be good to give him more ice time and see what he can do on a line with Horvat or Pettersson.
