I cant imagine a scenario where dreaming involves not signing Gaudreau and not getting a top 6 center. Neither of those 2 wingers can take over a game the same way Johnny does and spending 31M on the top 6 wingers vs 10.2M on the 1 and 2C seems really disproportionate.

Also Phillips is like 5'4 and absolutely does not play center

I'm not sure CGY will get away with moving Monahan without adding some type of sweetener to get something back. There will be quite a few cap moves this offseason, so moving without sweeteners probably won't happen.

Monahan is a tricky one. He hasn't been a legit 2C in a few years now. If he comes back healthy he is a bargain, especially if he re-signs with Detroit. If not he is only signed for a year and we have the cap space. Not sure what the right price would be. Reports are that recovery is going well, but asking someone to get back to 2018-19 form in 2022-2023 is a tough ask. A lot of time has passed.
