Leafs Next Year - CHI and VAN

Created by: HollywoodHudon
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 13, 2022
Published: Jun. 13, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
CHI - get younger and add a 1st while TOR gets cup experience
VAN - get younger and add a 1st while TOR gets the 2nd line LW they have been in need of and a depth vet D
MTL - get younger and cheaper while TOR gets experience and steady top 4 D for a couple years while Liljegren still develops on the 3rd pairing with GIO
ARZ - get to the cap floor with ease while only paying out $1m/yr in actual $$$

If the MTL (and the subsequent ARZ) deal does not go through... Just signing Lyubushkin to a 4 year $3m per deal to replace Petry will do fine.

Liljegren = untouchable IMO
Only way he is not a Leaf for the next 5 yrs or more is if he gets a ridiculous offer sheet.

Hawks probably decline. We can easily move Kane for a good return without having to worry about flipping Nylander for only gaining moving up from the 2nd to 1st round pick in this trade. Mrazek is going to cost a 2nd to move so really what you have is Nylander + 1st for Kane +2nd; Hawks pass.

Holl is worthless to the Hawks and they'd flip him for a 3rd or 4th whatever they can get basically washing out the 3rd in this trade the Hawks are giving back.

Hawks have NO RD after Jones. How would Holl be worthless?

Easy no from the hawks, Nylander doesn't make sense for the rebuild and hawks don't want to give up picks. Not sure if the value is there either.

Hawks are rebulding, they can sign free agents or just have Jones, Murphy, and one of Mitchell or Regula or even a lefty in that bottom spot. There's no pressure on them to improve right now.

Connor Murphy and I will take him every day of the week before Holl. Then they have two very good prospects who need NHL time, Ian Mitchell and Alec Regula, who will be fighting for the 3rd spot...thus Holl is a scratch.

1 yr of Kane vs 2 yrs of Nylander and a 1st.

How does that NOT make sense from a CHI perspective?

What do you think VAN can get for Miller as a pending UFA?

Assuming the first is to take on Holl and Mrazek. That leaves Chicago with Nylander who we don’t need as well as sending, a 2, 3 and 6 as well as 50% retention on Kane. Just doesn’t make sense for a rebuilding organization.

You are only paying him a little over league minimum now (not a great way to treat your untouchable players) and are over the cap with a 22 man roster once you account for last year's overage. With the way this roster is constructed he gets offer sheeted for a reasonable amount and Toronto will have a lot of trouble matching.

1 year of Kane 1/2 retained is a lot different that what you make it out to be. So Essentially it is 1 year of Kane at 5.2 million (also the better player who is a proven big time player in the playoffs which Toronto desparately needs in order to get over their first round shortcomings), vs 2 years of Nylander, and 1 of those years the cap hit equivalent is over 12 million. The 1rst round pick is essentially compensation for the 2 cap dumps included in this trade. So even if you drop the 3 draft picks going to Toronto in this deal, the proposal favour's Toronto. Leaving the 3 draft picks in this deal makes this trade ridiculously one sided.

A lot more than a third liner, B prospect, and a late first

Especially when you add retention and Schenn and a third round pick. You do realize that a 99 point player doesn’t come free. Just remember that Dubas payed a first round pick for a rental Foligno at the deadline

Habs decline. Petry is worth more than all of them combined and Webers contract wont help the Leafs. Would rather offer sheet Sandin for 4.2 million and pay a 2nd rounder for him
