Caps go Crazy

Description
BIG time retooling for Washington. Signings create needed depth scoring while leaving space for Wilson to return during the regular season. Washington also brings in a true number one goalie while bringing back a consistent backup in Vanacek.

While the Gibson trade is unlikely, I think Washington management feels the pressure to make a big move this offseason. The other trades and signings would be good fits.

Unfortunately JP and Gibson both probably get more. I would bump it to second + leason and guaranteed first for gibson. Would much rather get Forsberg or Gaudreau than Bura + Stasny with the leftover money

Gonna have to guarantee the first if Ducks accept tbh. Especially if you’re adding a cap dump to it too

Definitely agree about the first, but Eller is not a cap dump. At worst he gets you a third at the deadline after being an ok 3c, only one year left a 3.5 mil

It’s debatable, but for Anaheim it’s hard because we have a plethora of middle 6 forwards.

At worst he gets hurt halfway through the season and we get nothing out of him and nothing for him. Nope, too much risk.

Replace him with your 2022 first and we would probably say Yes, because the original offer is a little short to begin with.

This has nothing to do with the trade itself, because I too think it is a little short. But

"Too much risk"...he will be a UFA after next season...

And you can't talk about risk with injuries (especially if the player does not have a noticeable history of injuries. Injuries are bound to happen - could say that about any trade. Gibson might get hurt so "too much risk so Caps say no"

I was specifically responding to the "At worst" comment . . . and there's a gigantic difference in the risk between a 33-year-old UFA getting injured and a 29-year-old with five years on his deal getting injured. One represents a 100% loss, the other represents a 20% loss. So, NO, the same phrase does not apply to both sides of the equation.

Point being - there is always risk to a trade. A 33 year old UFA getting injured does not provide "risk" to a team like the Ducks who are still going through a "rebuild". The risk there is a loss of a 3rd round pick at the TDL. A 29 year old goalie who gets injured can effect a contending team (like the Caps) big time.

My point is: there is always risk with injury. That's hockey. You can't factor in "risk" to a trade because injuries happen every day (unless the player has a history of injuries - then that is a factor).

But yes, technically you are right - worst case would be an injury. That is always the worst case...

I'm not factoring risk in to the trade, I'm simply responding to the explicit statement that Eller has some intrinsic value to us (because of course we'll have no trouble trading him at the TDL) and therefore is a plus in this deal.
