Can't imagine NJ has any interest in that.

And I don't think either team really likes the 2nd trade.

Can’t see NJ doing that unless pick#9 is at least included. Fitz wants premium talent now though, not middle 6 help and a goalie who is years away

Damn, really? I thought it was an overpay by buff; what would make it close for you? Or does nothing of Sabres interest you?

Fair enough; I feel like ultimately NJ makes the pick. Slaf can instantly jump right into the lineup and is cost effective for the next 3 years on ELC - I dont get at all why he wants to trade that? Is it just that he thinks Cooley is BPA at # 2 but it doesnt make sense to draft him bc of Hughes/Nico at Center already? Wants to get full value of the pick?

These are both quite lopsided in buffalo's favor

Genuinely surprised by this; just wondering why?

Worth
Buff
Olo - 2 2nds
Portillo - late 1st round pick
mid 1st Rd pick
late 1st Rd pick

NJ
Slaf - early first
Tatar - third Rd pick

Slaf is worth more than 3 1sts and 2 2nds? - you think other teams offer more? Olo also immediately improves NJ PP which sucked last year.

Ott trade frees up a LOT of cap space for them to sign Giroux and then any goalie upgrade they want; they've already paid most of their big guys so they can overpay guys like Fleury or Keumper to come help them out for 2-3 years . Plus a 1st in 2023 (deep draft) that is from Buff (likely to be mid first round is not worth too much less than the 1st they are giving up.

Try making some ACGMs with Portillo getting a 1st and Olofsson getting two 2nds in isolation, see how that goes over. They aren't worth that.

This package for NJ comes down to what they can move those two 1sts for. Fitz wouldn't make this trade and just draft with those two firsts, he'd make the trade if a team like Chicago or MIN would rather have two mid/late firsts instead of #2 ovl in a deal for Cat/Fiala, which is pretty unlikely.

Portillo is not worth a 1st and there is a big difference between 2nd overall and 28th overall

I would take that deal if I'm Ottawa. Gets ride of two interesting contracts from Ottawa that have a lot of money attached to them and it gives them a top 4 RD. A interesting young prospect in Middelstatd who has had a rough go because of injury and get's more draft capital.

I do as well. I think the trade talk is being purposely overhyped to drive down market prices for premium assets

Personally I would choose Cooley, but bury either of them for the year in college or the AHL. Slaf needs to adjust to the NA ice especially, since his game really relies on the space he can create on the large European rinks

Trading it should never be off the table, but I’m on team don’t trade the pick too. ELCs are such great values it’s hard to argue to trade for a 7 million dollar cap hit when an ELC guy might have a similar impact for a much better value

I don’t think it should be a positional thing either. Just move any of them not named Hughes to the wing, and it should work out just fine. Not many players imo should be stuck in the center position. Centers with the skating ability of McDavid and Hughes are the outlier to that thinking though
