I like Dylan Strome a lot, but the Isles say no here. They don’t need another center

Devils would laugh and hang up. Hawks would have to add a lot to to get Jack Hughes.

I have thought of something similar regarding the Cat trade. But NJD and most scouts value Hughes very highly even though he hasn't shown a ton of production yet and has a horrific FO%. But I did think about digging into their center depth since they have a plethora of centers. But even then, NJD fans still seem very reluctant to give them up. But there is also Hischier, Mcleod, Mercer&Boqvist(also suck at FO's), Bastian, Sharangovich (isn't really a center but is decent at FO's). And to be fair Hughes is still very young, and has a ton of skill. So, I don't blame anyone for placing a high value on him.

Hasn't shown much production? I don't think you saw him this year. He was a monster when he broke out. 56pts in 49gp? He was just hurt for a chunk of the year.

Oh. yeah. Didn't watch many NJD games and I completely overlooked the 49GP part. Regardless, the whole point of going out and getting a DeBrincat would be to get someone for Hughes other wing. So a 1 for 1 swap makes no sense for NJD. And adding that 2nd overall would make it a huge overpay.

Oh for sure. Even if the Devils were bad last year, if you get the chance to watch him on ESPN+ next year, do yourself the favor. I've been a Devil fan for nearly 30 years and I've never seen someone like this, even the Hall MVP year was great, but Jack is straight up fun. When Sharangovich-Hughes-Mercer are rolling, he's so damn creative.

Oh boy. If you had a similar thought for a DeBrincat trade as AFox23, who just makes posts trolling Devils fans, then I'll have some of what you're having.

Haha. I won't lie and say it didn't cross my mind, but I am aware that Hughes is untouchable. I more so meant going after one of their many young centers.

Devils decline, as much as I like Murphy he isn't getting a first, Rangers trade isn't enough for the hawks unless Kane is just a rental then maybe it's alright, McCabe and Strome together should get more than just a first, Kubalik and a 2nd for Stars draft position is a steal for Dallas, and the Toews trade doesn't make sense for either side really.

Not asking you to sell him to me, but what is your honest opinion on Zacha? He has a great FO%, his production is pretty solid, and he isn't that old. So, why does it seem like NJD fans can't wait for him to get out of town? Is he just a streaky player that is invisible the rest of the time? Did he just price himself out of NJD? Whats the deal?

Zacha is a very different player as wing and as a center. (0.7 ppg as winger, 0.4 ppg as center). But he wants to play C while Devils had him at LW. Now Holtz is likely to bump him down the lineup someday, so they are looking at moving him.

Nico and Jack are our cornerstone pieces and will be for years.

Mercer and Sharangovich are both natural centers, but both have done well on Hughes’ wing (they always have one on Jack’s line since he doesn’t take defensive zone face-offs…and Sharangovich has been stapled to Hughes last couple of years).

Boqvist is our 3C now and has a bunch of upside left. Lots of skill and fastest skater on team. I have said for a while I think he is the best buy-low player on devils. If we end up taking Wright or Cooley, he will be hard to see him staying there long.

McLeod is locked in as 4C. Not much more. Forechecking line, defense and face-offs.

Bastian is strictly a winger.

I think the biggest issue with Zacha is his inconsistency. Hes been on the team for 6 years and has yet to figure out what type of player he is. He has size but doesn't use it, has a great shot, but doesnt use it as much as he should. Zacha has just not lived up to the expectations many had for him here in Jersey. Many feel a change of scenery would work wonders for him. A fresh start, a new system and teammates could be the thing that gets his career on track. I feel he can be pretty comparable to Sam Bennet when he was traded out of Calgary, Top pick that just never seemed to get together and once he got his fresh start in Florida it all came together. I dont think Zacha could have the kind of impact Bennet did for Florida but Zacha is the kind of player that can probably have like a 30 goal career year and settle around 50-60 points if all shapes out well.
