I'm not entirely sure Dobby will play at the NHL level again.

They love him! They will trade their 2023 first round pick for him!

Honestly, maybe we can get a third.. I doubt we can get a second, maybe, depending on how desperate a team is, but I doubt it. Buffalo got Hagg, a first, and a second for Ristolainen, so anything is possible!

Only haters think Barrie is nothing more than a "cap dump". I dont think he is bringing in a first or a A prospect or anything, but he definitely has value in a trade and the Oilers will not have to pay to move him.

who knows. But Seattle doesnt really have anything to lose doing this. They have plenty of cap space, they have no backup to start next season, and if dobby pulls off a miracle and returns to form they can flip him at the deadline to a playoff team for another pick.
Worse case scenerio, he stinks, and they burry him in the minors for a yr and he is a UFA next summer.

Really dumb take. How many perennial 50 point defensemen are there making just $4.5M, let alone being given away?

tears of joy

Exactly! I bet you we can get a third, but again, it depends on how desperate the team is, and how interested the team is. He’s still a good player, but a different team needs him now, not the oilers. I think Seattle, or Dallas, whichever one doesn’t get Klingberg will want Barrie.

How is Johnston nowhere near NHL ready? He just put up the best OHL season since DeBrincat did in his D+2 year while Johnston it was his D+1 season. He looked stellar in his pre-season performance this year. If you said that Johnston isn't NHL ready yet, I'd understand the argument, but to say he's nowhere close to being ready is false.

If the asking price for him is anything more than a third I don’t like him that much

When did Bowness get a cap friendly account?? These kids could absolutely be ready if put in a position to succeed. Harley looked meh in third pair minutes but every second he was out there with Miro he looked amazing. Robertson looked meh on the fourth line then got top line minutes because of injuries and the rest is history. These are talented kids. Put them in, insulate them with NHL talent, and let them learn the NHL game. Option b is guys like Comeau and Glendening who “play the right way” but add absolutely nothing. I’m all for having one or two penalty killing vets stashed on the fourth line but not an entire bottom six. That just leaves us with too many slow players on the second line because we can’t spread them out and zero secondary scoring

I guess you really do only remember Barrie when he didn't fit on the Leafs team hey. Barrie has been a dependable PP specialist on the Oilers. Bouchard is better. But many teams have neither a Barrie nor a Bouchard for their powerplay. This why some teams will give something for Barrie. Not a ton, but something.

Absolutely! Glendening could even bump up to play on Johnston's RW so he could take the Faceoffs if need be. I say Dallas should absolutely give some of these young A prospects a serious look this season, the time is now with guys like Radulov & Raffl not worth resigning.

Most of my point involved keeping Johnston away from guys like Glendening. And how is he supposed to improve at face offs if you give all of them to vets? All the old school coaches have a the NHL isn’t a teaching league mentality and that’s lazy garbage. Yes results matter. So why not help the TALENTED young players that can help you get better results?? We ended up with career AHL defenseman Joel Hanley in the playoffs because Harley “wasn’t ready”. Well maybe if you gave him the right minutes throughout the regular season he would have been ready. Oh wait I forgot he fed those minutes to Suter cuz he was there and has played some NHL before
