A dream that wont happen mkIV - new look bertNecas trade

Description
More cracks at the bert - Necas trade because I think there’s something there:
There is a lot of disagreement on whether bert is worth Necas and a first, or Necas+ but not a first. This change to the trade is intended to make both sides happy -

Carolina not only gets bert, but significant cap relief of Jake Gardiner, who is going to be coming back after hip and back surgeries and cost 4m against the cap, while definitely not being at his peak performance.

Detroit gets the Gardiner dump, but that’s okay, much like Staal he can slot in as an LHD plug. Edvinsson can possibly use some more maturing (50/50 he makes team imo, and Ajo is closer to being nhl ready, but you can swap them out). They also get Necas and the first that red wings really want to pry away (partially for bert and partially for the dump).

This is kind of like the Mantha trade, where we got the 1st we wanted with Vrana, but also had to eat Richard Pánik. Potentially add later round picks going in either direction to balance (Pánik also had a second coming back, but had more term on a lower aav)

I think the Canes have to accept this as an alternative to agreeing to a non-bridge long term deal with Necas. If that long term deal isn’t there - this would be the package to take.

A 2 year bridge deal with Necas is plan B if something like this isn’t possible. , provides asset coverage, cap relief, and a gritty top 6 forward who compliments the group this year.

Necas needs a fresh start and the Canes need realized potential now.

Gotta be honest - I saw the 1st on the wrong side of this trade. Kinda changes everything.

If Carolina trades gardiner then there would be no need for retention on Bertuzzi

I think the Monahan trade is feasible, though I don't think you give up Suter. He can play more of a swiss army knife role for the middle 6 (pun intended), he just shouldn't be a 2C (I think he'd be a strong 3C). If you move someone, it would be more Erne, though I really think you move a pick for Monahan.

The CAR trade is a little too much for Bert. Necas is a good 2C candidate and is very young with cost control, but sending him and a 1st round pick for 1 year of Bert (even if he signs an extension, you are talking about losing salary control) is too much. Gardiner may or may not play, so he's an LTIR candidate, so moving that money isn't important.

Necas, Gardiner, and a first is a bit rich for Bert half retention considering he only has the one year remaining. Mind you, if an extension is agreed upon before hand, I can definitely see this going through. Bert is the better player right now, but long term Necas will be the better player more than like. Assuming an extension is agreed on before hand, if the Wings send a 3rd as well I think the trade is better.

Wings accept the Carolina trade. I don't think they need to give up Suter to get Monahan. A 4th should do. Suter is a solid 3C. I would rather hold on to him and move at the deadline if he won't resign.
