It allows them to be over the salary cap for one season.

Detroit is better off without Reaves. We don’t need to acquire him to fend off Wilson.

Because 90% of people on this board don’t understand LTIR.

Adding the salary and then immediately removing it is a net neutral effect.

With the cap hopefully going up 1mil for 2024 and nearly 3.5mil in buyouts coming off the books in that same season they might be able to squeeze the next round of RFA signings in. I think they will ultimately prepare for that by not signing someone expensive like Giroux but it was fun to see how it might work.

If we can get Giroux for that price sign me up. But I feel like he still has some allegiance to Philly in that he would never willingly become a Ranger

This is not how LTIR works.

You won't be able to accrue cap space throughout the season to make a big splash at the TDL if you are in LTIR.

That is one of the disadvantages of being in LTIR. It would be for one season. I also doubt they go down this path. Just seeing what was possible.

So you've removed TDL flexibility to be net neutral on cap space overall. You're better off with the cap flexibility and not spending that draft pick.
