Getting better defensively

Description
Just trying a slightly different approach...

1. Roy doesn't seem long for VGK. The 5th sweetens the pot and avoids an offer sheet.
2. Change of scenery for Steel and Studnicka. Ducks need an NHL ready RW and BOS could use a bottom 6 C if Bergeron retires.
3. DAL has to re-sign Hintz, Robertson, and Oettinger in the next 2 years and Faksa is making a lot for a while. Ducks get a couple picks to eat his salary.
4. ANA needs a RHD and Verbeek was in Tampa when Foote was drafted. I don't see Foote cracking the top 4 any time soon in TB and they could probably use an NHL bottom 6-ready defensive C.
5. Sanheim is a year from UFA, and if PHI is retooling, he seems like the odd man out. Sanheim makes a perfect partner for Drysdale.

Rather just keep Studnicka and see how he does under a new coach. Steel doesn't really move the needle for Boston and just give them more of what they already have.

Fair value for taking Faksa, but I think the front office still likes him. You’d have to swap him and Lund. He doesn’t play wing

Tampa passes. Foote will be getting an increased role next season with Rutta gone and being our 2nd best RHD and his play in the playoffs up until he got scratched for no reason was very promising

What would you want for Groulx in draft picks?

Don’t like the Sannheim trade 1 year out from UFA. Would need to be a sign and trade

Also you brought in too many forwards, especially at C. Lundestrom has already proven he can be a reliable 3C and is only 22, he’s earned that spot. Could use a top 6 LW and RW in addition to defense though. Milano is more like a 3rd line winger, and need LW too unless Comtois can return to form (I’m hoping he can alongside Z and Terry). Studnicka and Roy are fine, but both more like 3rd line than 2nd

That is the wrong defenseman from Tampa, Cernak would be the only one I’d trade for

Well yeah, but he'd cost significantly more

I mentioned Sanheim would be coming with a 6 year extension.
As for 3C, that’s where I’d prefer McTavish to play. He isn’t ready for 2C (maybe he is) and I don’t want him on the wing.
Also, this lineup is more about depth than anything. Depth and versatility (a lot of guys can play multiple positions). I want to be done with the Robinsons and Meyhews of the world.

Fair. Admittedly, the healthy scratch raised my eyebrows.

No idea really. Former 2nd rounder. NHL ready. Maybe a 3rd and 5/6th?

Gotcha, that’s a reasonable POV. I think the main one I’d push back on is Roy. I’d rather keep the 2nd/5th than add Roy when I don’t picture him as part of the future of the club with Z, McTavish, and Lund down the middle. You could accomplish the same thing with Henrique at 2C

That’s a good point. I like Henrique at 2C. A top 6 winger instead of Roy is probably priority.
