malkin was pretty clear about wanting a 3x6+ deal at the minimum also bonuses count towards the cap sooo that whole imaginary bonus thing you got going on doesn't work.

he just declined a 3x5 from pitsburgh the team he has played for his whole career so i doubt he's gonna give anyone else a discount

I dont understand why Rangers fans include Georgiev in trades? Nobody's going to want to commit to him at his projected qualifying offer. That's one the Rangers just walk away from and he signs a short term >1 mil deal.

Would rather have Kakko since his trajectory now is in the same ball park as JP and will cost less.

IMO, the Rangers could qualify Georgiev and then retain 50% of his salary for a draft pick. I doubt they'll have $1.325M in luxury cap space to do it though.

Yeah at this point, there's more value to the rangers in just having him off the books than retaining for some inconsequential draft pick in 2025 or w/e.

Best case is trading him on draft night for something like a 3rd to a team that wants to negotiate exclusively.

But why would another team do that? Hes 26 and had subpar reg season stats. Why give up a 3rd to negotiate exclusively with a guy who isn't a hot commodity come July 1st (or whatever the day is now)?

You could probably trade that third for a much better goalie.

Malkin will want a lot more than that. Especially to sign with a rival.

Supposedly there is a good amount of interest in Georgiev. And the Oilers are mentioned in that mix.
While the QO doesn’t help NYR position, that doesn’t necessarily set the floor on his salary going forward…and all it takes is interest from >1 team…so that team doesn’t get the benefit of waiting out NYR letting him go UFA.
