Description
Lots of caps ACGMS assuming backstrom will be done, wanted to try if he is ready to play this regular season. This team looks pretty thin at forward and probably needs Ovi or Kuzy to play at an MVP pace for at least half the season again, but I feel like this is the best you can do. Also traded for a starting goalie from california making more than 5 mil next year whos best years are clearly behind them but still probably has something to give and is an upgrade over either sammy or vv.

What would it take to get Quick? I assume LAK don't want to pay 2 different goalies 5 mil next year, and Petersen is the younger of the two.

It looks like Quick will retire a King. during the rebuild every core member was given the opportunity to request a trade. Him, Kopitar, Doughty, and Brown all declined. Likely Kings for life.

Not gonna talk to the value, cuz it's probably fine.

Kings don't really have that big of an issue with regards to the cap this coming year. They still have 20mil+ in space (granted, some large signings to come for RFA's Kempe and Mikey Anderson), but even after signings they estimated to have 4-6mil in cap space.

As a result, Quick is not going anywhere unless he specifically asks for it. He's earned the right to go through this year and retire on his terms, or even sign a much smaller contract for a year with LA afterwards. But I don't think there's any desire from the LA organization to move Quickie.

Definitely makes sense, I am a big fan of teams treating their players, especially ones who have done so much for them, that respect even if their contracts aren't looking great. On paper he is one of the guys that would seem to be available that no one is talking about, and that definitely explains why.

Quick would have to request a trade for the Kings to move him. IMO his value is around 2 2nd rounders. His contract is expiring and unless the kings are going after a 9+ AAV forward his contract doesn't affect any long term plans. If Cal Peterson takes the net this year and Quick doesn't play any potential playoff games he might sign elsewhere next season.

If Backy doesn't retire he will still miss all of next season.

I agree that is the most likely scenario but there is still a chance he does play in the regular season next year, thought it would be interesting to see what that might look like.

What would it realistically take to get petersen? Really interested in any goalie options tbh

The Kings still like Petersen, so he wouldn't come cheap. He did just have a disappointing season, so his value is down a bit from his peak. He would likely cost a late 1st round pick, or a 2nd round pick and a good prospect.

Alternatively, the Kings might include him in a package deal to a team looking for a goaltender in return for a top LHD or a scoring winger.

More realistically, the Kings will just run with the Quick/Petersen tandem for another season and re-sign Quick to less lucrative one-year deals until he's ready to retire.
