Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 14, 2022
Published: Jun. 14, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Does two 2nds plus a cap dump in Scandella get us one year of Barbashev? If not, what is the add. Probably unwilling to move a first round pick. The Blues and Red Wings have made a lot of deals in recent years. We need a center. A one-year tryout and hope to re-sign would be good. If it isn't a fit, we move him at the deadline. He is still young and had an amazing year.

Could probably add a B prospect to either trade if it makes it more palatable.

Otherwise, the concept of the Vegas trade is that Hague is the cost of dumping Dadonov.

This is not a competitive team, but adds some young pieces in the hopes of continuing to progress.

Barbashev with a 23% shooting percentage? That's a massive amount of luck, not player growth. He also has a 39% FO Win percentage, one of the worse in the league. For reference, Pius Suter won 49.5% of his draws, at 3x the number of chances as Barbashev.

With figures like that, he wouldn't be worth a 4th round pick, let alone (2) 2nds. He's barely a 4th line C, let alone a 2nd line C.

Blues accept. I think both would be good fits for DET as well.

Regardless of underlying stats the man put up 60 points. You don’t put up 60 points with luck. If you’re worried about his FO% put him on the wing. The only reason Barbashev is a 4th line player is because he is on STL which is arguably the most deep forward core in the league. He’d slot in 3rd on DET in points. So valuing him at 4th round pick doesn’t make sense.

Ehh what are you on about? Not only has he had two other seasons with higher shooting percentages, but this was also his first time with anything more than fourth line checking duties with 13 minutes of night. This was a pure case of development curve, plus he plays both ends of special teams and hit everything that moves like it owes him money. You're dreaming if you think he's not even worth a 4th.

Mmm maybe, but probably only if they have a wicked deal lined up that is dependent on the cap space gained. Those are pretty low 2nds.

Gotta replace Barby, too. But more to the point, I like is set to be better than could be. And he better be worth the money. No Big Legend Bens.

He's also UFA after next season.

Detroit declines the Blues trade. Barbashev is a rental and Scandella a cap dump.

The price for a rental is lower than for someone with term. If you're going to list every little thing that raises his value you should also list the big fat reason that lowers it.

Dude, I was replying to someone who claimed that his season was a product of big luck and not natural development with a main point that he wasn't even worth a 4th. And this is from a guy whose team just got a 2nd, Sunny and Walman for two months of Leddy. So the whole thing was nonsense, and the fact that he's got one season left doesn't change that.

Blues consider this, but I'd argue it depends on how confident the brass is in one of our minor league centers to absorb a fraction of Barby's 60 points.
