I could definitely see them reacquiring him next summer after july 1 b/c of how his contract is structured.

I highly doubt that will have much to do with anything. Montour was here before; and I’m in no hurry to bring him back even if he’d be a tiny bit better this time as he’d play RD instead of as of LD.

Way too costly as well to help a divisional rival save cap. You’d likely need to swap the picks.

BUF trades nothing for Montour and FLA’s 3rd in 2023. At most we’d offer a 5th

Ownership doesn't like spending money, Montour at 750k for the year? They'll make an offer. Doesn't guarantee they'll get him as I agree they'll probably float a lower pick but they'll definitely try IMO.

Granted, I'm not a Sabres fan so I'm not aware of any drama that followed after his exit, but Buffalo has cap space, and a need for right shot defensemen. That's why I traded him there.

Signing Mikheyev to a terrible contract like that will certainly NOT help the team stay competitive...

There was not any drama with his departure.
He was (as well as many others) misused by Krueger.
He played well before Krueger became HC and he played well for FLA after he was traded.
I do not think Karmanos would be willing to give up anything to get him back, as he will explore free options next year before trading picks.
