Run 11-7. Keith stays, wish he’d retire, but he’s not going to, I don’t think. Kane wins his grievance, and Edmonton trades for him at half the salary, and they run, what will now be, the best line in hockey.

Max sharks would retain is 2 mil,
Kane 2 mil retained for
Kassian 22 1st & 23 2nd would be the best your going to get.
word is he’s likely to get 7 mil for 4+ on the open market so your saving a bunch is he wins!

I really wonder what is going to happen with his arbitration. And I’d be willing, if I’m Ken Holland, to add another roster player, or a high round pick, to swing the 50% retention.

San Jose could make out like a bandit in this situation with how well Kane player this season and in the playoffs. Getting a guy who scored 47 points, 32 goals in 59 total games this season at $3.5 mil with term is great to get even with his issues.

I’d imagine there’s going to need to be a bigger pitch in order to get the retention. Saying that, Kane will never suit up for the Sharks ever again, but if he wins his arbitration, he could rot on the roster for all SJ could care.

Even if Kane wins his grievance, they aren't likely to reinstate the contract. The more likely outcome is the Sharks will have to pay Kane the contract value and potentially receive a cap penalty of some sort.

Why would the Sharks retain?? If Kane is going to be that sought after as a free agent wouldnt they just as easily be able to trade him at full price and get some assests back in return??

IMO the arbitration will award Kane a some or all of the money owed to him for the remainder of his terminated contract. It WON'T reinstate the contract itself - meaning he'll be a UFA this summer but a rich one.

They won't reinstate his contract. If he wins it will likely result in a similar way to a buyout. Sj will owe him a huge stack of cash and might get nailed with a cap penalty.
Even if sharks are forced into backing a truck full of cash to his front door I don't see it effecting his next contract. Given his age and how much of his career earnings pissed away he has to maximize this opportunity I don't see it as selfish its just what he has to do at this point it might be the most mature decision as fans we seen from him.

Sharks not retaining for seconds, kane could turn into a reverse karllson type move, not sure what sharks are doing there, but I’m sure Edmonton could throw a bunch of possible buyouts and a 1st or two to clear the cap and get kane for 7 instead of 8/9. Kassian and smith possibly, not sure on convincing kieth that sj should be his final sweater. But could be one interesting trade with some youth and whatever else sj could pull off.

San Jose doesn't own Kane's rights so this isn't happening. The result of arbitration will not be to restore the contract, but to transfer cash to Kane and a buyout cap hit to San Jose.

I think it's hilarious that Sharks fans think that this arbitration process will somehow help their team. It won't.

I would not retain half, I’d rather let him rot in the AHL or buy him out
