Description
I was looking for flexibility. Small short term contracts that are “lighting in a bottle” contracts. I think they’re small enough to possibly make enough of a difference. Greene is yes older, but an experienced enough that he could help out on a “mentoring “ role for Schneider and Jones. Halak had a rough year in Van but maybe he finds his game coming back to the tri-state area. Other goalie options I looked at was maybe Griess or Comrie but I think he’d cost too much.

The Kakko deal I really struggled with because I like the kid a lot but they need to get a little creative to get a 2nd line center. Free agent centers after Strome, Copp, and Trocheck are little to none. I don’t think it’s an overbearing contract that doesn’t have any restrictions (NTC, NMC). So it’s easier to trade if it doesn’t pan out. Signing Any of the other guys listed your probably going to have to add some kind of NMC or NTC. Might be too much of a package, but just an idea.

Schmaltz interests me for sure. I wonder what the ask for him would be.

No chance Arizona takes that. The only real value going to the Yotes is Lundkvist and the first, which will be late. They can get more for Shmaltz elsewhere. Not to mention giving up Fischer and a 3rd for Kakko and Georgiev, that part is a bit more fair, but I can’t imagine they would really interest the Yotes that much. For a guy who was able to put up 8 points in a single game, he can get more.

Might as well sign Copp or Strome to that amount and keep all the assets. Giving up on Kakko after 3 years of improper usage would be the most NYR thing ever. 0 reason to do that.

Like I said in the post it’s about flexibility. Strome and Copp are going to want some kind of conditions with their deals and long term (5-7 years). I don’t wanna trade Kakko either but you have to pay value to get something

Like I said, not sure about all the pieces but in my opinion on the Coyotes point of view it’s all about collecting assets. They have some young kids signed (Smith and McBain). your looking at value now instead of upside for the future. Essentially the Cotes are getting three 1st round picks and a goalie who can perhaps play better in a change of scenery

Understandable, but I would be thinking the Yotes want more quality for Shmaltz. They really aren’t getting that much quality in this trade. Not saying this trade can’t happen, but certain pieces should probably be upgraded.

You're talking about Nick Schmaltz. He scored 7 points in one game against the Sens. Let's not get carried away.
