70mil is below market value. Like it’s a certified fact that Johnny is making 70mil. There’s a good argument that 80mil isn’t even an overpay on a 7-year deal. It’ll backfire if Philly is the one signing it because the rest of that team sucks, but Johnny’s for sure worth that and going to go for more than that at minimum.

$80M would make him the 2nd highest paid Winger in the NHL, right? Sounds a little insane for a Winger who has never done anything in the playoffs (11G in 42 GP) and only scored over a point per game in 3 out of 8 seasons in the NHL. Based on last season, he's worth it. Based on the. entire body of work, he's not. He'll probably get the $80M, like you said, but it's an overpay. He's not Panarin.

Wow Noah Dobson now has to be included in the Anderson trade or Hughes won't trade him to the isles. Wild stuff

Yup that’s the cost for a guy who’s closer to an AHL caliber winger than a top 6 NHL forward

Just saw the Liljegren signing. Great deal. Surely this is the most important thing to happen in hockey over the last week or so.

I mean, Panarin’s career highs are 32 goals and 96 points, both numbers Gaudreau has beat twice. He just put up 40 goals and 115 points, which is even better than any pace Panarin has ever been on. Then you add in that Gaudreau has added another element to his game with his high end defensive play AND exorcised his playoff demons (I’ve always maintained that if anyone watched the games, they would realize Gaudreau wasn’t the problem, at the very least in the bubble playoffs, it was just because he’s an elite playmaker whose linemates combined for 0 goals) with 14 points in 12 playoff games, which is the most of anyone who didn’t reach the conference final and includes a game 7 OT winner. Like, based on analytical models (as well as pure rate stats output), Gaudreau this season was more valuable than Panarin and P. Kane the years they signed their big deals, and is projected to be more valuable next year (despite the model predicting a slight regression for him!) than they were projected to be the following seasons. There’s every reason to say that he’s better than Panarin lol. He projects as being worth 13.8mil on average for the duration of a 7 year contract. Dom wrote an article about UFAs where he talked a fair bit about Johnny, he lacks comparables due to his small size/elite playmaking/high end defense combo being a complete enigma, but a 7x11.5 deal (80.5mil total) is one that he projects to more than live up to (providing way more excess value for the first few years to make up for the slight lower value in the last couple years).

I was thinking of him being on a new 2nd line with Paul and Point

Paul-Point-Kessel

The new third line

Colton-Cirelli-Hagel

Or in other words

Palat-Stamkos-Kucherov
Paul-Point-Kessel
Colton-Cirelli-Hagel
Maroon-PEB-Perry

I think Philly will sign Kadri. Like I said I think isles will throw the bag at Forsberg, something crazy like 9.5 x7. Makes no sense

I wouldn’t mind Forsberg tbh

He’d be an upgrade on what we have but he one of the top regression candidates for next season.

The isles are better off keeping Beau , trading Bailey and adding a top line forward like Fiala. Subtracting Beau and adding Forsberg won’t move the needle

I would go bridge deal and if he continues to grow like he did this season he could be making more in 2 years

His perspective

Avs would probs want to sign him long term at that cap hit to save money in the long run

But if I was Byram I take a 2 year deal and if my game continues to grow like it did this year that 5.5mill could become 7mill or something
